About the only thing you'll be able to re-use is the keyboard, mouse
and the case (and the monitor if modern enough), and the case is
probably not optimally designed to cool a modern CPU and harddrive, so
you're probably throwing money (and hassle) away by trying to re-use
the case. A mouse is $10-$50 and keyboard $12+, so you're not saving
that much money...

IMO, donate the old machine to some charitable organization and start
from scratch.
