I have a SB Riva TNT video card and installed nascar3 to run
in glide/3dfx mode but i get a screenGetmode Failed Messege
and the game does not start.
 any ideas?

The TNT doesn't do Glide.

With a TNT you'll need to run the game in D3D, not Glide.

Thanks, I reinstalled in direct 3d mode the game starts and i do all the
configuring but when i go to race i pull out of the pits and the computer
freezes
with the sound still running and i have to turn the machine off
i have an amdK6-2, Riva TNT and a SB Live Sound card
any ideas? i run most games on this machine without a problem

And for what it's worth, Unified doesn't work either.  It did for N99, but
not N3  (I would kill to have Unified work in GPL, hehe)

You are using the Creative Labs TNT right?  What drivers?  I am using
the CL drivers dated 9/27/99 with Direct X 7.0 on a K6-2, FIC mobo.  I
have no problems, you may want to try that combo or even the new NVIDIA
reference drivers, 3.53?  I haven't tried them yet.

You need a 3dfx card to run in 3dfx/Glide mode.  You need to run the 'other'
3d mode with that card.
