HELP: No sound with cd-rom?

Hi all.  If I install the cd-rom of NASCAR to my hard drive I can get the sound to work.  But, if I run straight from the cd-rom I get no sound.  I'm using a soundblaster pro 8-bit.  Any ideas?  Similar problems?  Solutions?
