Geforce with no add'l properties

Ok folks, bought this Sony Vaio with TNT2 M64 card installed. Never could get
to additional properties to tweak the card. All I got was a grayed out "overlay
controls" that were not changeable. So I ordered a Xtasy Geforce 3 Ti200,
installed and same damn thing. When I go to additional properties all I get is
the grayed out overlay controls. All sony ever said was that the M64 card didnt
offer this option but documentation with the Ti200 says that I should be able
to adjust the card just like I have with every other Nvidia card I have had.
Running Win XP home on Sony P4 1.7 512meg ram . mainly run NR2002. Just
sticking the card in gave me abot 15 more fpr in open gl but no increase in
D3D. I do have Rivatuner installed but can't figure out how to use it. Any help
appreciated,
Dan

Overlay controls only apply to overlays, like when watching dvds in PowerDVD or WinDVD.  What
controls are you attempting to get at?

Overlay controls are available whilst playing an AVI movie.

Did you uninstall your old cards drivers proeprly? Sounds like you didn't.
You've got a mess in the registry. Uninstall all old video drivers, delete
registry entries of vid card manufaturer (past and present), switch to
standard VGA driver rand then install your new drivers.

i had the same problem as you and hp's website told me to boot in "safe
mode", go to "device manager", delete EVERYTHING under the display tab,
reboot, and install your drivers.  i had 4 video cards listed under mine.
made a world of difference.  hope this helps out.

No I didn't. No mention to do that in cd manual. Sure sound like I screwed up.
Not sure I'm capable of doing what you suggest but I sure appriecate the info.

Thanks for the info. Did you delete from the device manager? Only options I
have are update driver, disable or uninstall. All I see listed is the Ti200.
Thanks again

You coulkd try Detonater Destroyer (go to www.guru3d.com).

Set your display properties to standard VGA first then run DD and follow the
instructions. Afterwards install the new cards software.

Andi.

HAng on, only 15fps from a TNT2 to a GF3????? You must have some
really dodgy drivers happening. Go to www.guru3d.com and get the
latest drivers as well as detonator destroyer. Remove your old drivers
using DD, then install the new ones. You should have at least a
doubling, maybe a tripling of your frame rate in most games (although
I don't have NR2002 so I can't comment on that one in particular).

Thanks all ! Detonator destroyer and installing the 23.11's did the trick. Now
in the 70+ fps and I can actually run with the grandstands on. Man this group
is helpful.

Well, overlay is available only if you have two monitors, I think. Or monitor
and TV.
You don't have any other options available, you say? In order to get them, I had
to switch back to Detonator 6.50, since for some reason I would only get
Direct3D properties (no OpenGL or other) on my system... I don't know what's it,
either, and I have tried deleting every other card from Safe Mode.

No, overlay is available any time you are running a DVD or AVI etc. It's
just for adjusting colours, brightness in videos etc. so is only available
when runnimg those types of apps.

BTW, I also followed the advice and finally managed to get Detonator 28.32
correctly installed... The only thing I miss is the 720x480 resolution...
Now TVout defaults to 800x600 and seemingly it can't be changed...
