Just brainstormed some ideas about the mod potential of F1 2002 and my
purist feelings on it to my site, also you can get my GPL setups and replays

Very nice looking page, but a few things...
1. File checking is all that's needed for a level playing field - I'm sure
Simon Philips can tell you more about this than I can...
2. The car setup option screens can be customized in a mod to allow only
certain parameters to be changed...again file checking can enforce
this...The FIAGTV3 mod should prove that wildly different cars can be
accurately modelled in the game engine.
The question is, how good is the file checking in F12002. I don't seem to
recall seeing any cheats on F12001 rank, so I would guess that Simon has
implemented something similar in the new telemetry.

I think its worse in GPL where there are no checking at all for cheaters,
and only the few who knows how, can do it.
Forgot one thing " Here lies another problem with 3rd party add-ons, you
still have all set-ups options available for a recreated lotus 49 in a
simulation designed for use with modern F1, how do these options like 3rd
spring, spring packers and brake duct size effect a car that never had these
options."
Just edit out the 3rd spring and it wont be used in the physics.
and btw, you will need todo a new suspension for the car, and this is only
possible in F1 2001 / 2002. (susp.pm) which defines how the suspension
parts is joined togheter etc. No other sim has that from what ive seen.
brakeduct size can be set to fully open, and just edit out too so it cant be
changed.

yes, well when somebody actually produces an FIA sim that gets the GTS
cars right, then I'll put away the FIAGT F1 mod. When somebody sells an
ALMS sim that feels right and has the proper tracks...I'll dump that mod.
When somebody produces a CART sim, I'll erase another. When somebody
figures out the proper LMP 900 physics and tracks and such, I'll dump that
beta.
I know the mods are not right, are not even close in some respects...but
they are a damn sight better than the alternative....
