Has any body managed to get the Voodoo2 to run in OpenGL for Nascar 4 .???
May have to send the game back as direct 3D sucks.  Graphics are no better
than the old Nascar 1.

Have you loaded DX8 during the install of N4?  That may be causing your
problems.

If you're looking for Open GL to be the savoir for N4 on your Voodoo 2, save
yourself some grief - it will be even worse in Open GL than D3D!  My
experience with my Voodoo 3 2000 and N4 showed me that the game runs about
three times slower in Open GL on a Voodoo 3 system.  Ironically, it is
faster in Open GL than D3D T&L on my Geforce 2 MX.

As to the second part of your observation, the graphics are better than
previous NASCAR's once you get to at least 1040 x 768.  Anything short of
that and it can look relatively Spartan.  It's not the quantam leap I
expected graphically, but it is better provided you can run at 1040 x 768 or
higher.

Thanks guys

I didn't load the DX8 during install as I already had DX8 on so it wasn't
installed with N4.

Thanks John. I won't try any further to run in OpenGL and either take the
game back or shelve it until I can except another PC upgrade.  I know I am
expecting alot for a Celeron 466 with Voodoo2  but I thought at least I
could run well online.

Pfffft, with the kind of money you make on those pedals of yours you
should be able to afford an upgrade....:-)))

Yes, you are expecting a bit much of the V2 card, but replace it with a
GeForce2 MX card, which ought to be really cheap these days, even in NZ
:-), you might at least get a taste of what the game is like, you could
always try overclocking that Celeron of yours a little bit as well you
know, just 10-15% more speed could be the difference between enjoying N4
or not

Hi folks

Goy.....  I have airmarked some dosh for the PC from the current batch of
pedal but in the form of a CD writer, and then more RAM, hmmmmmmmm still
want a digital camera.......  >:))))))

Anyway, history has been made. I returned a Papy sim to the shop for the
first time even.
I think it's more of not wanting to have to spend upwards of a $1000  to
bring my PC up to mark to run N4.
I agree my Voodoo2 is dated but I thought I would well equipped enough to at
least run online where my PC would not
have to deal with the physics of the other cars.
A Gforce2 MX card is $409 NZ here at the moment and I think I will still be
lagging with only a Celeron 466 and 64 meg

I will await for a WSC  demo before I consider spending more on my PC.

Take care
Nigel

Hey Nigel, wanna make a deal? I'd be more than happy to send you a shiny new
GF2 card in exchange for one of your very cool pedal sets. Yeah, I know it's
a sacrifice on my part, but hey, us simmers gotta stick together. <VBG>

long it's been since I've forgotten anything.

IMHO, you're expecting an AWFUL lot on a Celery and Voodoo2.  For the most
part, on-line racing is more system intensive, not less.  I can run much
better graphics detail off-line than on-line.  Maybe your experiences are
different, but that is my expereince, anyone else have similar results?
Meaning on-line is more intensive system wise than off-line as long as the
fields are similar in size?

400.....wow, I could sell you one for about half that price, if memory
serves me right about the exchange rate....., of course, shipping
charges would make it a bit more expensive of course :-)

Didn't know NZ was such a high price area
