Has anyone used the Canopus Pure 3DII video cards in nascar 3? I currently
have an ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP II ww/8megs and Nascar 3 does not run well.
Looking for any advice. Can get the card very cheap and want to try it.

Thanks,
Pete Johnson

I have a similar system : PII-300 - Ati Rage Pro (4Mb) and a canapus 3dfx2
card (12mb + extra fan cooler)

Nascar -GPl - Dirt Track racing  All run great on it. Not the ultimate in
frame rates but at a resolution of 640*480 you can leave a lot of detail on
and still get excellent frame rates (30 in gpl)

Unfortunately the latest Canopus drivers are a bit behind. So you might try
to use the 3dfx reference drivers, if you are using DirectX 7

Pete,

I've had Canopus P3DII's and the main issue with them is that they are not a
reference design thus you have to hack the registry to modify the timings to
get the reference drivers working correctly. Canopus don't support the board
anymore with drivers, so I would recommend you stay clear of it. There is
good support at http://p3d.clickon.com
if you want to know how to get the P3D working with reference drivers.

I'm running a Matrox G400 with dual Canopus Pure 3DIIs in SLI, using reference
drivers from 3dfx, no hacks.  Runs N3 and GPL perfectly, no problems.

I have one and with the latest drivers it looks fantastic. Make sure
you have the fan on the card!

I have a Canopus 3D II with an older driver and its works great. BTW I was
wondering if the 3dfx reference drivers that others are using also work with
GPL. I can't get GPL to work with the latest 3D II driver and have not upgraded
to a newer driver for a while. Thanks.

Yes I have a ATI xpert 98 AGP 2X card + a Canopus Pure 3D II, and have no
problems with NASCAR 3 or any other games.

I am using DirectX 7, and the official Pure 3D II driver file
P3D2W9X14004.exe available from the link I've pasted below.  This
distribution also includes Glide 3.03.

Although I wouldn't buy the Pure 3d II now for its full retail price, if I
didn't already have one, I'd definitely consider buying a cheap one until
the Voodoo 4/5 is available.

Try putting glide2x.dll from Glide 2.53 into the \sierra\gpl directory.
That might help.
