Ever consider a ATI Radeon 7500,  It's comparable to a high end GIFT for less $$.

less $$.

I think you mean the 8500, which is supposed to in theory ourperform a
Geforce3, it doesn't though because ATI don't supply decent drivers for it.
The 7500 compares to a lower end Geforce, not high end.

Matrox does not focus on *** anymore.  Just about anycard would be
better in the long run than a Matrox.  The Ge Forces have Transfor &
Lighting coded in the hardware and sims like  N4 see a big jump in
framerates when you use it.
If you can search around you will find GF2 PRO's or Ultras that cost about
the same as any MX version.  spend the money and get a Pro or Ultra...

The GF2Ti looks very impressive, specially the factory overclocked
Gainward board. However, I've been burned on buying old technology
both on my V3 and V5, so peharps the only real alternatives are the
GF3 in some version or the Radeon 8500 ? Getting off topic now a bit,
but the increase in price from the GF2Ti to the GF3Ti200 isn't that big.

James, since your an Aussie, check out the prices here:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

I'm actually about to buy a video card myself, I'm going with the
Geforce 3 below (but I'm getter a better deal at $575).

DON'T go for a Matrox, they are pulling out of the *** world and
you'll be left high and dry. These are the best bang for your buck:

Leadtek Winfast Geforce 2 Titanium TH 64mb DDR TV OUT NEW - IN STOCK
 $340

Good price to performance. Around twice as fast as a Geforce MX at
$270. Should be good for a fair while still. If money is a big
problem, then go for this one (or similar)

Leadtek Winfast Geforce 3 Titanium 200 TDH 64mb DDR TV out& DVI NEW
 $620

Best bet in my book, but pretty pricey. Twice as fast as the GF2 ti at
higher resolutions, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. Plus plenty of headroom
for future ***. Check out Tom Pabst's post earlier - RT running at
1920x1440, 50fps mmmmmmmm :D

HTH
Rafe Mc

BTW, if you want a cheaper deal, go here
http://www.racesimcentral.net/ in the city, Melb. Crappy website,
but a good place and cheaper prices :) They're website is always
outdated on price.

Yep, GF3 Ti200 will give you the most bang for the buck. Just overclock it
to 215/485 and you will get performance slightly above a stanfard GF3. I
don't have one, but am planning on getting one soon.

As for ATI 8500. I read today that they hacked their shipping drivers to
lower the texture details in Quake3A so that it would get higher benchmarks.
***them.

I came across a deal on Ebay for the GF2Ti 64DDR for a total of $125 so I
figued I'd give it a try.

You can get the GF3 Ti 200 for just under $200.00.
