I'm contemplating buying this wheel, but I;ve read somewhere that you should
buy the card that goes with it as well to run games like GP2. Anyone have
any idea if this is needed and if this is a good wheel for GP2, Screamer 2,
and Carmageddon?????

Thanks for your help

A dedicated gamecard is necessary only if you have troubles.
I would try it with your existing gameport on your soundcard.
If it works fine with no problems then don't worry about it.
If you constantly have to recalibrate (thermal drift will cause
this), or have worse symptoms then a dedicated gamecard
will be necessary. In my case my computer would not even
boot to the BIOS screen because my T2 was sucking too
much power from my gameport on my soundcard. I put in
a TM ACM gamecard (which manages the voltage better)
and it worked fine.

Definitely do this before spending the money on a dedicated
card. I have a Soundblaster 16 and haven't had any problems
whatsoever with my T2...

I've also got an old SB 16 and my T2 works fine plugged into it.

Others have already chimed in, but I thought I would throw in a cent or
two....

First, the T2, is a good mid-to-low priced wheel.  If you want pedals,
definitely go for the T2, or if you have a few extra bucks, look at
their newer wheel the NASCAR Pro (in North America) or their Formula 1
Pro in other parts of the world.

Regarding a dedicated gamedcard.  Yeh, thrustmaster likes to push their
card (and rightly so, it's a damn good card).  But it usually is not
required.  Most soundcards have a half-way decent gameport.  In other
words, it should work.  However, a good dedicated gamecard will improve
the response of your controllers.  For years I put off getting an ACM
card because I didn't really experience any "problems".  But for sims
like ICR2/GP2/NASCAR2/F1RS, precise control can make or break a near
perfect lap (still haven't made a "pefect" one).  Precise control is
what a quality game card can provide.

It's just like anything else in racing, you should be able to get by
without a dedicated gamecard, but getting a dedicated game card should
provide a boost in your efforts to Win!
