Once I reached for the brake with my left foot while doing about 80 mph on the
interstate. That made me a little nervous - don't want to get goofy footed in
traffic!

You know you been playing too much GPL when you are in your real car, you
evade an accident that wasn't your fault, the car gets bogged, you can't get
the car out of the mud...........I know .....reach down for Shift-R (
Thinking SHIT, now I've gotta warm up the ***y tyres again ) :-)
Darf
I got a bit 'confused' like this a few years back & ended up upside down in
a ditch. Shift-R doesn't work, and standing at the roadside for a couple of
hours really brings home the reality of the situation.
I hardly ever drive fast on the road now, I use gpl for that. I still wince
& think "this is gonna HURT" when I crash in gpl. I only use shift-R when
the engine blows now.

Well, I can relate. A while ago I was driving much too fast in a
rainstorm. I sped down a hill and at the bottom was a puddle the size
of Asia! I slammed on the breaks, the car slid toward a wall and I
yelled "this is gonna hurt!". The car was a right-off. 14,000 of
damage!
What made me laugh was that a few days before I had been racing GPL
online, someone cut me up and I went through much the same experience.
Only I was laughing after my car was trashed in GPL, cos it made such
a funny thing to watch, but crying after my 'real' accident.
Wish I had had SHIFT+R back then!
Darf didn't write this, I did.
As I recall, the thought going through my mind during the skid was "oh no"
when I felt the steering hit the bumpstop as I countersteered.
You're right, stuff like that really brings home the difference.

not much lessons on the straights though
for that. I still wince
only use shift-R when
I wouldn't say it makes you safer on the road, but it'll show you how to
drive fast well on a track ;-)
