You accidently cut someone off in traffic and instinctively reach for
the keyboard to type sry(as I did driving home last night)

Once I reached for the brake with my left foot while doing about 80 mph on the
interstate.  That made me a little nervous - don't want to get goofy footed in
traffic!

LOL!
You know you been playing too much GPL when you evade an accident and your
mother in the passenger seat says: "Must be all that computer racing you do"

You know you been playing too much GPL when you are in your real car, you
evade an accident that wasn't your fault, the car gets bogged, you can't get
the car out of the mud...........I know .....reach down for Shift-R (
Thinking SHIT, now I've gotta warm up the ***y tyres again )   :-)

I got a bit 'confused' like this a few years back & ended up upside down in
a ditch. Shift-R doesn't work, and standing at the roadside for a couple of
hours really brings home the reality of the situation.

I hardly ever drive fast on the road now, I use gpl for that. I still wince
& think "this is gonna HURT" when I crash in gpl. I only use shift-R when
the engine blows now.

If you are on a curvy road, and don't need to change gears I find leftfoot
braking makes the ride more smooth. I like it :-)

After running several GPL races one day, I had to drive somewhere.  I took off
from the light, and went to grab 2nd gear.
I have an automatic transmission...<g>

... you trail brake into a corner, trying to get the rear end out so you
can pick up the throttle and power out....  at 20 mph in a fwd
minivan!!!

Hehe, well I was a reasonably calm driver before getting into all this
sim stuff.  I still don't deliberately drive fast, but the sim racing
seems to have warped my perceptions of what correct speeds and distances
are.  I am constantly braking too late and coming into corners too fast
now IRL.  Not so fast that I am out of control, but fast enough that the
tires chirp and I get an embarassing amount of lean going around the
corner.  And it really does look silly in a minivan.  ;o)

Who remembers the scene in Days of Thunder where Cole Trickle enters
the pits and is cutup by a car in front? He hits the breaks, the car
slides towards the wall and he yells "this is gonna hurt!".

Well, I can relate. A while ago I was driving much too fast in a
rainstorm. I sped down a hill and at the bottom was a puddle the size
of Asia! I slammed on the breaks, the car slid toward a wall and I
yelled "this is gonna hurt!". The car was a right-off. 14,000 of
damage!

What made me laugh was that a few days before I had been racing GPL
online, someone cut me up and I went through much the same experience.
Only I was laughing after my car was trashed in GPL, cos it made such
a funny thing to watch, but crying after my 'real' accident.

Wish I had had SHIFT+R back then!

Darf didn't write this, I did.

As I recall, the thought going through my mind during the skid was "oh no"
when I felt the steering hit the bumpstop as I countersteered.

You're right, stuff like that really brings home the difference.

you know
GPL promotes safe driving
it did for me, I am all toooo AWARE of the pitfalls
of braking in mid corner, too much momentum into corner
and failure to downshift for the corner

not much lessons on the straights though

for that. I still wince
only use shift-R when

I wouldn't say it makes you safer on the road, but it'll show you how to
drive fast well on a track ;-)
