Playing US version of games on UK PCs?

by Carl Gavi » Wed, 29 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I am hoping to buy Nascar Legends but it doesn't seem to be available in the
UK as yet (if at all)... so I may buy it from the States.

So I was wondering if you guys knew of any problems in playing US versions
of games on UK PCs?

Any help and advice would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Carl

Absolutely none whatsoever, PCs (unlike consoles) are universal.

Technically none, however two things to look out for 1. no UK support for US
versions. 2. Patches tend to be different for US and non US games, beware
what you download.

I have a few US copies that work fine and I know several UK copies of Rally
Championship went to the US.

When you first install your operating system you tell it wha country your
based in.

Certain software is designed only to be run in certain countries (UK quake 2
cd says 'This product is intended for sale outside North America only and
will not function on North American operating systems.')

beware.....

Andi and Ian,

Thanks for the advice.

I'm glad to hear that there shouldn't be a problem.

... but as the US Version of NASCAR 3 runs without problems on my german PC,
so NASCAR Legends should also work in UK...

Yes, Activision and Psygnosys are go to hell!!!
Japanese are suffered from same paranoid companies. They
are screaming to divide world into a part, aren't they?

(OK, I know it is just another economic trick, though...)

I know that European games work fine on US computers. I've got several
racing games from Europe, no problems, except what are tyres? hehe

No problems. I got NL from the States and it works fine, and, unlike a lot
of Euro released games like N3 and GPL, you don't need the CD in the drive.

that, and what the heck is petrol?

Petrol ( or more correctly petrolium) is the stuff that goes into the fuel
tank and ultimately burns in the engine, producing power.

BTW. Where else but in the States would people call this liquid substance
"Gas" <G>

>Petrol ( or more correctly petrolium)

Actually, it would even more correctly be 'petroleum.'

Because 'Gas' is short for gasoline, the liquid by-product of distilling
crude oil.

BTW, Motor oil is petroleum, too.  Does that mean if you pour motor oil into
your fuel tank the engine will run and produce power, too?

Oh yeah...and 'bonnet' is something you put on a baby's head to protect it
from the sun.  and 'boot' is something you do when you start a computer
and/or put on your foot when you want to walk through snow.

You say tomato, I say tomato, etc..

~daxe

PS..then again..'hood' is something you put over your head, too, and 'trunk'
is an elephant's nose.  go figure.

Sorry for upsetting you Dave.

I must convey my most humble apologies for my feeble attempt at a little bit
of light humour. Still, I guess it's getting back to business here with the
seasonal goodwill wearing off  eh....

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go and write 1000 lines
