Hardware and NT4.0

Good day,

I have been wanting to switch my system to an NT station. I have tried
before with no success. I could not get my sound Card (SB AWE 64), or my T2
to work within NT. I also use a Verbal Commander. Has anyone successfully
run N2, N99, GPL, Viper, etc. under NT. If so, could you let me know your
computers config as to compare mine with yours so I can get all my games to
work properly.

TIA

NT is not a game platform, don't waste your time trying to make it into one.

As far as I know, NT4 only supports DirectX 3.0 or lower. Therefore you will
not be able to play ANY new games, apart from DOS ones.

You will have to wait and get NT5.

If you get Service Pack 4, this will help (I am not sure what driectx
version it has though), if you install the pnpisa.inf file this will help
with the sound card. It will also pick up a bunch of other stuff too. It is
true, NT id not a game platfom although it has built in OpenGl.

Installation of your soundcard works in the same way as under 95 or 98
To work with your T2 you can use a regular driver, which is not supplied
with NT. Download it from the Microsoft site

I've run games like Monster Truck and it WORKS (bit slow though...)

Actually there is a hack available that will give you DirectX 5 on NT 4.
Just FTP search for nt4dx5.zip. I haven't tried it with any racing sims yet,
but it runs Falcon 4.0 about 10-15% faster than Win98.  BTW - NT doesn't do
DOS.  With only a very few exceptions, DOS games will NOT run under NT.

Quite a few DO run, but if they do then it's without sound or SVGA. Which is
almost the same as "don't run", of course.
