ProWheel 2 Or Extreme Competition?

ProWheel 2 Or Extreme Competition?

by Sylvain Vach » Wed, 22 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I'm planning to buy a driving system for my long racing hours with IndyCar
(and hopefully IndyCar II in the next few weeks). With the driving systems out
there, It seems I can't make any choice at all, so I need some feedback...

What about the ProWheel 2? Anyone tried it once? What kind of feeling you get
with the pedal unit?

Extreme Competition seems very good but pricey. Is it THAT good?

Can I mix the systems, wheel from Extreme and pedals from ProWheel?

Thanks for your help!

in my opinion, YES

probably. i used the Extreme wheel with CH pro pedals with good results.
still use ch for flight sims, or when someone brings their pc to visit.
i asked about ProWheel awhile ago but the only person to answer was John
Pribble of Extreme! does anyone actually own a Prowheel? i know a couple
of Extreme owners in the uk alone! they seem happy.

Silvaiyn,

If you're looking for the best controller, try the TSW which is made by Trevor Thomas. Absolutely
awesome and far from the price of the ECC controller. You can e-mail Trevor on

You surely won't regret it!

Cheers!
John

I spent ages wondering about getting a Thrustmaster T1 because I was
spending so much time on Nascar Racing. It didn't seem quite right to
me so I never bothered. Good choice as it turned out!

No idea.

It's fantastic! BUT, I can't compare it to anything except my cheapo
joystick which it replaced. It looks VERY cool indeed, is extremely
responsive and I was amazed at the amount of control that it gives me
in games such as Nascar, and now ICR2(Demo). The pedals have a lovely
feel to them, with the brake being deliberately stiffer than the gas
which is very light. As John Pribble of ECC explained to me, this is
partly down to easing driver fatigue in long races as well as
responsiveness.

No idea. I bought both the Wheel and pedal units together. Can't see
why not though. Each unit uses its own joystick port so you should be
able to plug in whatever unit you want. I can use the pedals and my
joystick in Apache Longbow.

Sylvain,

Sylvain,

Look beyond the hyperbole and obtain the facts about any product
that you may consider purchasing.  The simple and plain fact is
that you get what you pay for.  If you want a cheap system,
there are other more suitable systems than the ECCI.  If you
want the proven best possible performance, the CDS is the
recognized leader in driving sim hardware.  ECCI has gone to
great lengths in submitting the CDS to a large number of
professional reviewers (who have access to all driving sim
hardware) to have the facts published about the CDS.  If you
can, obtain the listed publications (perhaps at a library, some
may be on the web) and read the full reviews.  This is a
sampling of what they have to say:

"EXTREMES COMPETITION DRIVING SYSTEM TAKES THE CHECKERED FLAG
OF DRIVING CONTROLS"
Computer *** World, August 1995

"Until last week, the steering devices Ive tried have been
shelved time and time again......But my driving environment
recently experienced a radical, almost revolutionary,
alteration.  Extreme Competition Controls had just delivered
their Competition Driving System...."

"I took it from the grueling NASCAR circuit, where a steady hand
is the key, to the infinitely more responsive world of IndyCar
Racing, and finally to the reflex mad, lock to lock tracks of
World Circuit.   And when the dust had settled and the smoke
cleared, my new***pit had set records, carved the uncarveable
corner, and opened my eyes to a new level of realism.  Without a
doubt, Extremes wheel and pedal combo is the best driving
system I have ever tried."
-Computer *** World, August 1995

"The Competition Driving System is the product, and it does for
the computer driver what graphite rackets did for tennis players
- namely make them a whole lot better."

"Its beefy to be sure, and as an added bonus, the thing looks
just too cool for words."

"...the unwavering steady drive and response of the CDS simply
has no current peer."
-Strategy Plus, October 1995

"From the first time I accelerated out of the pits using this
system, I knew I held quality in my hands.  It immediately gave
me control of the car like I never had before.  My lap times and
confidence improved dramatically."

"Small adjustments to your steering line register in minute
detail"

"The precision and sensitivity have to be experienced to be
truly appreciated."
-Computer Game Review, November 1995

"...the CDS is a racing nuts dream."

"...as about as heavy duty as you can get; it feels like its
been torn from a Formula 1 racer"

"...if you demand the most from your driving games, this is the
ultimate setup."
-PC Gamer, December 1995
