TSW Stock and LFS.

Has anyone managed to get their TSW Stock to work with LFS?

I have tried the latest patch but still can't find a combo to get any of the
axes to work. I have it setup in Windows 98SE as a custom controller with 2
axes and 2 buttons (shifter). It is plugged into the back of an SB Live!
Value. Works in GPL and Nascar 2002.

Thanks.

I also have a TSW and it seems that nobody has been able to get them to work
correctly.

My Redline pedals wouldn't show up in LFS either when running via the sound
card. However via the Rockfire USB adapter they work fine.

Bill,

You're not alone.  I've only seen a single post from a TSW or TSW2
user that successful in getting their wheel to work with LFS.  Yet, even
with his settings I couldn't get mine to work. The rest of us have tried
everything including Voodoo!  Seems that the TSWs are terrible with demos.
What we really need is for Dave at TSW to figure out how to get our wheels
to work.

I'm running Windows 98SE, and a SB Live Gamer 5.1 sound card.

I haven't downloaded the demo yet, but seeing that it apparently has
problems with our wheels, and it sounds like people are liking the sim, I'll
see what I can do.  No promises, but really there's no reason it shouldn't
work, in combined mode our controller works the same as a standard joystick,
it should work with any game that will work with a joystick.  Where you
sometimes get into trouble is when the game has a poor sensitivity in the
control assignment routine.  Some are way too sensitive and pick when you
haven't pressed anything, others apparently expect much greater
travel/change in value.  If the programmers take the time to do it right,
like Papyrus, it really should never be a problem.  It's understandable with
a demo, and the control is apparently unfinished, as they say it will
support split pedals eventually.  I'll post in this thread when I figure
something out.

I have a TSW2 with the Spec pots. Under WinXP, went into game controllers,
and then clicked CUSTOM. Set up the wheel as a "race car controller", 2
axes, 2 button.

Chose wheel in LFS controller setup and everything seems to work fine.

I can't drive very well, but its not because of the wheel..LOL

We make the Advantage 1 and it has a dual/single axes switch. With LFS it
works perfectly in single axis but in dual, the Z axis doesn't seem to work.
Our wheel is a very basic configuration and works with all other games so I
am baffled as to why it won't work. Anyway, as has been stated, this is only
a demo so we will wait and see before we start re-wiring our wheels and
pedals.

Umm, I had to set my TSW (it's one of the originals... almost 7 years old
now, that has been upgraded to split axes capability) to combined axis and
it just worked. I didn't have to do anything special. I selected "Wheel" in
the demo and started driving. I run it under WinXP through the game port on
a SB Live! soundcard... DK pots.

No problems getting it to work in combined axis here Nigel, of course, I
only get about 5 fps with my Radeon 8500 so it's a moot point, I've
tried every setting in the book I think.....oh well, there will be a
patch soon for that as well :-)

To get your Radeon 8500 to work install Rage 3D Tweak.

http://www.rage3d.com/r3dtweak/

Go into the "3D DirectX Options" and deselect TCL hardware. Reboot. I turn
it off just for this game and enable it otherwise. It requires a reboot.

Later.

Okay,  I've downloaded the demo, and unpatched, I was able to use a TSW2
with SPEC pots and one with 250k DK pots and they both work fine.  You first
need to calibrate under windows, using a 2 axis config, being certain that
you are connecting your pedals using the adapter cable to put them in
combined mode.  Then, in the game, it defaults to using the mouse as a
control device, you have to hit the button on top of the control setup
screen that says "wheel".  That automatically sets the accelerator and brake
functions (steering as well).  You can assign button functions for shifting
and looking left/right etc..  You can see that they are working because
there is an indicator on screen that represents the wheel and moves left and
right when you steer, and in the lower right corner a red and green bar will
come up when you press the pedals.

I downloaded the patch that is supposed to allow split axis pedals, but I
haven't installed it yet.  I see that someone has already posted their
solution, but keep in mind that the settings will be different depending on
whether you have a TSW or TSW2.

Thx for the suggestion Bill, much appreciated, but I read that tip in
another thread here and tried it, no go, it did the trick on my non
*** PC which also has a R8500 card, but there's no way to connect a
wheel to that PC

I use the 3D Tweaker and I have enabled and disabled just about
anything, at least 20 different combo's by now, I'm starting to wonder
if it has something to do with my trusty old ASUS A7M266 MoBo, the other
is a KT266A based MoBo and works just fine, other than the MoBo's and
the non *** PC having a 64 MB vid card as opposed to the 128 in my
*** PC, they are very similar in specs

That still doesn't work for me. I have my TSW Stock setup in Win98SE as a
2-axis 2-button joystick.

"you have to hit the button on top of the control setup screen that says
"wheel"."

I figured this much.

The indicator at the bottom of the screen has always just sat there. The
steering wheel and pedals do nothing.

I have "DK" pots 100K that I purchased from Thomas Enterprises. Seems you
aren't using these pots anymore. I guess the 250K pots are really all you
should use anymore with everything moving to USB and WinXP.

If you own a TSW Stock and are still having problems, it is probably due to
the game still being buggy and/or you have 100K pots.

I have about 7 brand new 100K "DK" pots......... :-(
