Well, not exactly (put your favorite flame here!;). But while your here,
I used to race ICR2 on my Diamond Stealth S220, which is Rendition
based. I had the patch for this, but after a couple re-installs of
Win95, (yes, that crutchety old thing) I lost it. And, I'll be damned if
I can't find the FULL patch anywhere. I can find the Cryix patch and the
V2200 patch but not the full thing to patch it. IOW, does anyone know
where I could find the FULL ICR2 Rendition patch? I could live with that
until SOMEONE makes ICR3...

I'm using a Stealth II right now, but man, we
have got to get with the program.  The current Rendition
chipset is not worth wasting code time on preparing a new
sim.  You want higher resoulutions, and you want
more color depth, but with the Rendition, we are limited.
Big time.    Now if Micron would ever get the Redline crew
off it's collective rear-end, and they produce a MODERN
chipset with the speed and features to compete with NOT the
current chips, the TNT2 or V3, but the next wave comming late
this year, then, and only then would I support Papyrus making
a NATIVE port of any of their next sims.  Otherwise, we are taking
a big step BACKWARDS.

Actually, they canned the first 'next-generation' Rendition, and are
starting with the V4400, I think they call it. Check
http://www.rendition.com. I saw it there a while back. They just
recently got acquired by another company (name escapes me - it's late),
so I guess their projects were put on hold for a while...

Rendition has decided that when they release a new chip, it shall be an all
time killer, in terms of features, visual qual and speed. And it won't be
very expensive, and they'd like to sell the chip to the OEM market, Micron
is their connection to the vast OEM market that S3 and ATI have mastered up
to now.

The trouble with releasing a killer chip and keeping quit about it is a bad
combination. No hype. The hype thing is one of the reasons 3DFX has had
such enormous success...

When the Verit 4400 is released, I believe it will be a killer product,
Rendition is capable, but they're not very good with creating a hype, and
this is what worries me. And the Rendition API RRedline is one of the best
API's out there, very clean code, little CPU usage, no bugs. I have raced
GPL with Rendition cards (Stealth II and Thriller 3D) for almost a year
now, and it hasn't crashed once! This is a sensations in itself, and it
really illustrates how well the Rendition API is put together...

I will probably stick with Rendition for another half year. I will then
become a bit impatient... If rendition can't get a new chip out within the
next 6 months, I am afraid Rendition will struggle immensly to get back
into the 3D market.

My tuppence worth of rendition prospects...

And so what?  Its dead, no one will dare program for it.  Why spend X amount
of time programming a rasterizer for a small population of the entire 3D
market which is getting bigger as more 3D cards flood the market that only
use Direct3D/OpenGL APIs (except the 3dfx products which are more numerous
than Rendition chipsets).

Not really. Could be you are just getting lucky. :)  If say 60% of the
Rendition owners had that success then it might signal something, but not
just one or a few percentage of them.

Well, you are going to be up a creek without a paddle.  There aren't any new
drivers for the Thriller and that means no DirectX6.1 support, no DirectX7
support either.  Games like AMA Superbike, CanAm, Nascar3, etc. are all
relying on DX6.1 and will be out within the next 6 months.

I used to be a big rendition supporter, now I own a Voodoo3 and am much
happier, rendition really  left us out in the cold, as far as I can tell
they are dead and wont ever do another card. Besides, at this point
rendition has long since lost any advantage that they had over the other
compainies..

No KIDDING!  When I was at the practice and qualifying, I mentioned to my
friend that I was surprised at how much the cars jumped around...  How the
drivers can stay in control(usually) amazes me...
