GPL - again a problem :-((

I installed GPL + 1.2 patch + OpenGL patch+
D3D-patch.

I can start the game and get into all menus. The options
allow me to choose between D3D, OpenGL and Software
mode and to choose between various resolutions.

My problem: when I want to race and switch to a
circuit, GPL crashes and puts me back on the W98-
Desktop. This holds true for software, opengl and
D3D-mode - and all resolution.

My system: Athlon 1000, Geforce2MX, W98,
new Detonator-drivers, DirectX7.0a.

Check you haven't accidentally over-clocked the AGP bus, which can happen
with a 133 MHz CPU.  The base AGP 1x speed should work out at 66 MHz, which
means a ratio of 1/2, not 2/3 if your CPU is 133 MHz.  Also try switching
from AGP 4x to AGP 2x or even 1x (regardless of CPU clock speed).

Strange as it may seem, some games are more sensitive to hardware problems.
Might be worth checking.

Jochen,

Did you apply the 1.2 patch that is on the CD (and not mentioned anywhere!),
or did you download the patch from the internet? I remember that I did the
latter without realising that is was on the CD, and the patched GPL crashed
back to the desktop. I think there is a "crash to desktop" patch somewhere
that presumably the CD patch inherently has.

Hope this helps,

Andrew.

I did not recognize that the 1.2 patch is on the CD, I loaded it from the
internet.
But I will find out today in the evening!
