I bought GP2 at a Future Shop in Toronto, Canada summer of 1997, fo abour 45
bucks (after combing the town to find a copy).  Zurich is in Switzerland...
get an atlas some time.  There is life beyond the Great White North.

It was $39.95 at FS, add 14-15% (depending on what province) and you
have $45.50. Guess what dumbass? $39.95 *is* a reduced price. Most
games sell for $60.00 or so here. It was reduced in price so quickly
because the game was unfinished at time of release. It is *still*
unfinished. Where are the other car sounds for example?

In 1997?  "Budget" releases are 20 buck items.  Top level games might have
been released at 60 dollars maximum in 1997.  Racing games were priced in
the 40-50 dollar price range.

No. Game prices have actually dropped since 1997. I payed $90.00 after
taxes for Longbow when it was first released. No way would I pay that
price today. GP2 was not bargain bin fodder, but it was reduced in
price very quickly. I know this is fact because I remember seeing many
people saying they got it at lower than average price not long after
it was released.

Didn't see any Zurich in the headers. Saw a "ch" suffix which I
incorrectly guessed might be Chile. Get over it already.

"Zurich" was in the main text of my note, as in "I looked in my local shop
in Zurich".  I'm only having some fun here.  Considering I wrote a perfectly
honest note about the price I paid for the game, I was rather surprised to
be called "dumbass".

Lucky you didn't meet Greg!! If HE would say such a thing it would
probably be intended as "flattering" <G>

Well, I guess I missed the Zurich part. But, it's irrelevant to the
conversation at hand anyway. You're a dumbass because you contradicted
me and said it was sold at full price and then you tell me you bought
it in Canada in '97 at what I can guarantee you is a reduced price.
You actually proved my point. Thx. :-)

The price of Longbow was also irrelevant as there is no relationship between
the debut price of two different software products.  Actually, I'd say you
were the one down a few points on the IQ scale for spending 90 bucks to buy
Longbow.

And by the way, you contradicted yourself.  I didn't have to help you. First
you said:

To which my original reply was simply that I had seen it on the regular
shelves, in Future Shop, for substantially more than "bargain" titles. But
then later you said:

So make up your mind then.  Of course it's all trivial, but a "dumbass"
cannot go unchallenged.  As for the validity of our statistical surveying
methods, I poked my nose into shops in a half dozen countries while looking
for time-killing games during boring conferences and actually saw what was o
ne the shelf, especially in racing games.  You, on the other hand, "remember
seeing many people saying" something or another.  Yadda yadda yadda.  I hope
you at least heard them saying it as well.

So you still think that $45.00 you paid was full price? Duh.

And yet you replied.  I'm flattered.

I certainly don't think it was "bargain bin" material even more than a year
after its release, which means the game had staying power, in contrast to
your statement that it was a bug-written, steaming turd which cannonballed
straight into the cast-off bin within 16 picoseconds of its release.  And
yes, $45 was a full price for new titles at a lot of the software shops in
Kingston and Toronto in the summer of 97.  Maybe you should shop around a
little, Nos, or make better use of your prognosticating powers, although it
seems you missed on the last half dozen "end of the earth" scenarios.

Anyway, you were right that this has veered wayyyy off topic, so I'll close
now, but of course you are welcome to have the last word.

I never said that and I certainly never meant it to be taken that way.
I quite liked GP2, even though it was released missing some features
and ran like ***unless you tunred off lots of details. What I am
saying is that it was reduced in price quite quickly by Microprose
because they knew it was an unfinished product. GP2 was supposed to
have wet weather racing for one thing, but never made it to final.

Nope. Average price for a game back then was $60-$70, sometimes more.
$45.00 U.S. dollars maybe, but not Canadian.

I shop at many places and know current prices very well, just as I did
back in '97. It seems *you* are the one with the faulty memory. Don't
contradict people if you can't remember the facts.

Thankyou Stephen. I would like to take this opportunity to say in my
closing statement that I wish you and yours all the best. :-)

Well,  that definitely DIDN't happen in the UK.  It stayed full price
for ages b4 becoming a budget title

Thank you for the confirmation.
