OT: Dirext X 7.0a availble where?

by Da » Sat, 30 Jun 2001 02:34:18

I have a friend I just turned on to GPL, and he/we decided that he
should spend his limited cash on a steering wheel and not a better
graphics card (currently Rage 128 vr). He is running in software mode,
-ugh, I think the  d3d patch would work on his card, but the readme
says something about having DX 7. He doesn't. I searched, I really
did, for dx70aeng.exe and couldn't find any place where I could
download it. Including Microsoft, all DX8.0 there.I don't want to be
the guy that has to get his USB port working again because I tried DX8
and it caused problems. Anyone help us find a downloadable 7.0a?

Not at MS. But almost any game in the last year shipped DX7 along on
the CD. Hope you have some around. :)
Perhaps even GPL...

I couldn't find Direct X 7.0a anywhere too. I installed 8.0 and the D3D
patch works fine. So do you need 7.0 or will 8.0 cause me problems in the
future?

BTW   I had a hard disc crash and had to reintall.  Before Open Glide worked
but I couldn't get the D3D to work.  A lot of strobing colours overlaced
with the image.  This time reenstalled everything the same (I think) and
Open Glide didn't work (actually worked great for first race, or practice,
but first time you esc to pits the image was pushed down a third with a
strobing black bar on the top third of the screen. Any one know the cause or
cure for this?

disc crash and had to reintall.  Before Open Glide worked
Euan, just to clear up a few items.  There are 3 main 3d video systems.
1.  D3D, which is Microsoft's version that is native to Windows 9x.
2.  OpenGL which is an older 3d graphic routine that became popular with
Quake and Quake II.
3  Glide.  This is a proprietary 3d application intended only for video
cards that use 3dfx chipsets.  The famous Voodoo cards,
  There is no openglide.
Since 3dfx has gone out of business, the Glide format has all but
disappeared from new programs.  however many of the first 3d sims and games
used Glide(like GPL & longbow2.).  So if you have a 3dfx card, the Glide
option is still very valuable.
But the bulk of new 3d cards by Nvidia and ATI can not access  Glide 3d,
so you must use either the D3D or OpenGL options.
Unfortunately i can't help further with  your problem.
I haven't come across those symptoms.

Hello; new to group. I have had the misfortune of installing DirectX 8
& it completely F**KED UP my system. My sims will not run at all. I'm
running Win 98SE in a homemade box with a 1G Athlon, 512Meg of PC133,
Gigahertz board, ATI Rage MAXX & Microsoftie FF wheel. At this point,
I'm open to suggestion..........

After installing dx8 try re-installing your sound and vid drivers and
possibly even re-installing your sims.
