HELP: Thrustmaster nascar and Y Joystick cable

by Ivan M. Olar » Sun, 21 Dec 1997 04:00:00

I'm trying to connect a suncom joystick, and a Thrustmaster Nascar
wheel to the same Joystick port via a Y cable.

I do not plan to use these devices at the same time.

I have no problem with the Suncom Joystick, however the Nascar wheel
is not detected by Win95 when attached to the Y cable. even if it is
the only device connected to it. I was really counting on this to
work.

Anyone get a setup like this to work? Or have info on why Nascar wheel
does not like being conneted with the y cable? doe it use non-standard
pins?

Thanks for your help. Please e-mail if possible.

HELP: Thrustmaster nascar and Y Joystick cable

I tried this as well,  with a thrustmaster T2 and a wingman extreme
and couldnt get it to work either.  So i cut the y cable in half
intending to make an extension out of it so i could change controls
easier.  The problem is the y-connector doesnt have enough wires in
each split section.  It only had 5 or so going to each device so it
wouldnt work.  my next step is to try and make my own.

Good Luck

What the Y-Cable does is split the dual port on your gamecard into 2
separate ports ("joystick 1 & joystick 2").  The NASCAR wheel is wired
as 2 joysticks.  You will need a device called the Joyswitch or some
other type of unit that will allow you to plug in more than one device
and then throw a switch to select which one.  Or you can get a joystick
cable extension and then you can connect / unconnect from the end of it
without going behind your computer.

I assume Win95 read the first port and assumes anything on the second is
"tied" to what is on the first.
