The way I got this to work was:
1.make a directory called "DaytonaB" (it has to be the same number of
letters as "Taladega")
2. copy in all the taladega files, renaming taladega.dat to
daytonab.dat, and taladega.txt to daytonab.txt.
3. here's the tricky part...load the new "daytonab.dat" into a hex
editor, like Norton Utilities, and carefully change all the graphic
filenames from "taladega" to "daytonab". There are 5 or 6 occurrences
in the file.
4. load "daytonab.txt" into any standard text editor that does not
store formats with the text and change the text to what you want (and
the number of laps for the second race of the year, as well...it's a
400miler, not 500)
5. and last step..load the file "calendar" in your NASCAR root into a
text editor and make sure the track name is "daytonab", not "daytona".
and viola`, you should be able to run Daytona (although it will
actually be identical to Taladega).
PLEASE PLEASE NOTE MAKE BACKUPS OF EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO THIS...
