N2003: Tips for better internet racing connects?

Wondering if there are any settings that greatly effect the
connection. I have a 512K/512K cable setup and I hosted two 56K modem
users. I ran with just us on the track (Texas) and they had (avg)
450ms pings at 99% quality. One guy was blipping in and out all over
the place (warping) and the other wasn't too bad, but not as solid as
I remember N3 being. I disabled NAV on all machines along with ICQ,
etc., but wonder wht I can do to reduce the amount of data N2K3 passed
to possibly help..

Thank you for any help!

From what I've seen, if you've got even ONE person connected that has poor
latency (speed isn't the issue, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a
modem user) then it ruins the whole thing for everyone no matter how good
their connection.

Within reason, bandwidth isn't the issue.  It's the Latency and there isn't
a whole lot you can do about it.

The fact that they have good quality leads me to believe that reducing
the amount of data transferred would not help.

Obviously, getting rid of the analog modem will help with latency a
great deal, but may not be possible for you to do so.

Have you tried doing a tracert from the modems to the server, and vice
versa.  Perhaps there is an efdup router in there somewhere...  If
there is you might be able to convince someone to fix it.

I seem to remember back in my analog days that you could fool around
with the Windows registry to tweak modem connections.  Perhaps looking
at some *** sites might give you some leads here.  Google on
something like counterstrike (or quake or diablo or... (hint: popular
games) + modem + tweaks and see what comes up.

Good luck,
Gerald
