I had actually read abot it before but didn't realise how bad it was
until I saw it, in one way, you can't blame Tom Pryce, the marshalls
should have seen him coming, but I guess he died doing what he loved
doing, as did Ayrton Senna, Roland Ratzenburger, Greg Moore, Dale
Earnhardt, it jus reminds us that motor racing, no matter how much we
love it, is a dangerous sport, and yet when we play these games we
should remember that legends in the sport made racing what it is today,
the most popular sport in the world.

We all pay homage to these brave people when we buy the games, when we
play them and when we enjoy them and talk about them, at the end of the
day, 22 F1 Drivers, 40+ Nascar Drivers, 30+ Cart, loads others out there
and they are all brave men, and are all great drivers.

With this, let me plug EA's F1 2001 Season, I have been playtesting this
for the PS2, this is an AWESOME Game, realistic, and the PC version is
gonna be better yet.. :) (btw.. I work for EA)

Book

You forgot about the (mostly) unpaid workers who man the tracks so that
these drivers can go race.  A moments pause to reflect on those who have
perished during something they (and I) also love.  F1 has claimed two
marshals in the past year, and motorracing in general has been cruel
worldwide with approx 5 deaths in same period.

You can't blame Tom Pryce in ANY way. There was nothing he could do. He came
over the crest of the hill at +180mph to see this guy infront of him. Anyway
he would've only seen him for a split second before being hit by the fire
extinguisher...

Im sorry i asked... terrible accident. What i find unbelievable is how
another marshall runs accross the track after tom struck the other marshall,
and a car zips by at 180mph only 4secs after! Things have come a long way.
Also, why was tom just dumped on the ground? And did his helmet come off on
the impact, or removed by marshalls?

That picture "did" enough for me....  this is something I *don't* want to
see..

Shame about Pryce though... he,  like so many of "the others",  was a great
talent.

impact was so strong
you could at the end of the clip that his helmet droped near the place where
accident happened

Likewise, Ed.  I confess to starting the video download, but the first
few frames suddenly made me realise "s**t, I'm about to see someone
die".  I'm very much interested in F1 history, but I don't need to see
something so tragic to build on my knowledge.

I actually feel guilty for even considering watching it :-(

I read at the time that he was decapitated but as far as I could tell from
the video he was still in one piece. Thanks for posting it Dino, although it
is not pleasant I feel it ought to be available.

I am confused on this.  I know the marshal died, but did it not show a driver
in his car that appeared to be dead as well?

Driver was also killed instantly. The fire Extinguisher the marshal was
carrying hit him in the helmet.

Sure can't say that about the poor track marshall. I've seen the video
also, what a horrific accident.

In this kind of thing, the severity of the outcome increases exponentially
each time it's told.
