The official Grand Prix 3 site has been launched at www.f1-grandprix3.com
and www.f1grandprix3.com.

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

"Well, the site can be found on www.f1grandprix3.com. Currently there are 4
new screenshots, press releases, a full list of features and an empty
reviews list.

I suggest you check it out right now...Told ya! (Sorry, couldn't help
that)."

Enjoy!

Great... more shots that look like a bastardised GP2.01a 1998 edition and
some specs that cover *4+* Player network play. I'm sorry... 4+? Does this
mean we need a minimum of 4 or that 4 is the maximum he can guarantee right
now because of shoddy net code.

I'm even more worried now

I'm amazed you could deduce how poor the network code is with so
little information.... you must have incredible insight!!!!!!

The word is "hindsight" - just reflecting on "promised" v's
"delivered" in GP2.

Cheers!

Yup. Seven screenshots of a 60% completed game should be enough for
anyone to judge.........

Don't be a***. You need to learn to read between the lines of press
releases. I used to write them as part of my job and what you say is
usually the absolute maximum you can get away with.

TF2 supports 32+ players, Quake 3 Arena supports the same, even GPL
supports a larger number of players than GP3 is predicted to so the only
fair assumption to make is the netcode is inefficient as the only reason to
limit to 4+ players is that with more it's horrifically slow.

In any case... where's the mention of TCP/IP play?

First off, I share your concerns about the number of network players. But how
can you call 4+ (plus) a limit ?`:P

One other thing. There is a lot of complaining that they showcased GP3 with
a 600 Mhz monster. I've tried GPL in software on my PIII450 and it is not
a pretty sight. The difference between a 450 MHz and 600 is not "that" great.
And since people have reportet good gameplay with GP3 in software mode i'm
really not that concerned. GPL has always been a dog in software mode, but
there haven't been any complaints at all about it.

Simple... in marketing if my net code supports 1000 players I say "1000"
I don't say "999". 4+ in this case probably means 4 normally and 5 on a
good day :P

says...

The screenshots are software rendered and exhibit all the usual dreadful
artifacts:

Texture warping, only 256 colours, no bilinear interpolation, small
number of polygons, no sky texture, no sky gradient, no dynamic lighting,
no atmospheric hazing etc.

I'm surprised Microprose unveiled this product now, and especially that
they chose to use Monaco as the track, this is notoriously one of the
hardest tracks to do well, and the proliferation of armco, trackside
scenery and buildings, serve to highlight all the problems of software
rendering.

They should have waited for hardware support or used a more suitable
track such as Silverstone.

Acutally considering the launch venue, I'd have thought silverstone would
have been a better idea anyway.

And you need to get some "facts" before you shoot your mouth off. The
game is no where near completion (unlike Q3A or TF2)... so we really
have no idea whats actually going to make it into the finally version,
do we?

I'm getting quite a chuckle from everyone proclaiming the fall of
Geoff Crammond and GP3 based on 6 screen shots and a statement about
4+ LAN users. Speculation is fun... but it doesn't mean a thing until
the game is actually released.

Crammond's got a pretty good track record... I'm optimistic.

I am hearing that the FIA / FOCA wouldn't allow Internet play - dunno if
that's true though.

Could it be that the license Microprose have purchased does not allow
Internet play, and to upgrade it would entail another extremely expensive
visit to Bernie's plush offices?

Hey, just what we need, another reason to hate Bernie, the poisoned

Sounds about right.

I still reckon this game will be great though.
