Errrr.... the cow flop detector has just emitted it characteristic high
pitched whine, indicating close proximity to BS.

Don't know what an AMD586/133 is but it sure looks like a P133 which is not,
repeat, not the equivalent of a P75-90.

In fact, if what you say is true, it sounds as if your Sneed is the
equivalent of a DEC ALPHA 500mhz.  If indeed sky can be run on even this
machine.  Point being, you don't get smooth play with ALL details on in SVGA.

Any other ideas on what 586/133 could be? ...maybe an ***ly high ***
pressure?

An AMD586/133 is not the equivalent of a P5-133. He's right, it's probably
closer to a P5-90.

All the same, I agree with you. I have a P5-166 I just picked up this
weekend and I still prefer to run with all textures off except skid marks.
I'll take frame rate over eye candy any day of the week.

Ummmmmmmm....
It would appear as if my cowflop detector is not hooked up to the
icr/nascar detector.  It would seem as if this may have initially been an icr
post in response to a gp2 post (no label=no filter-=mass confusion). While the
cowflop detector is highly reliable and inimicably accurate it would appear as
if it is, nevertheless, susceptible to user malfunction.

That said, I still don't think icr would boogie with all detail on in SVGA
based on my experience with a P100.

with acrimonious apologies,

Perhaps wiring the cowflop detector through the user-malfunction
detector prior to reconnecting the icr/nascar detector would be
a wiser approach.  Additional wiring would be required, however,
the longterm benefits could prove worthwhile for a minimul investment.
I think you're right about "boogie-ing".

I have tried it on a AMD586/133 < i was going to do a little upgrade
from my DX2/66 > but i decided not to because i did not see a big
difference. What kinda Video card are you using?

It's basically a 486 DX4-133.  They stick a P75 on the end of the 133
(i.e., AMD 5x86-133 P75), presumably to denote it's equivalent in
performance to a Pentium 75.  I've been told it tests around a P75 -
P90, as someone else said, depending on how you test it.

Whatever it is, the cow flop detector seems to be working fine.  I
have the 5x86-133 and get about 16 fps with all trackside objects &
trackside textures on.  Everything else is off; track & trackside
objects are on in the mirrors.  Not a bad improvement over a DX2-66,
especially considering the < $45 cost.

<snip>

====================
The "586/133" is actually a 5x86/133.  A clock quadrupled 486-33.   It is (according
to performance tests) roughly equivalent to a P75/90... but then the "performance"
tests try to simulate an *average* computer user's needs.   (who's average?)
I've found that games tend to rate higher than spreadsheets and databases due to the
fact that many of them just like clock speed and aren't affected that much by the
other enhancements of pentiums.

So if you ask PC magazine how fast a 5x86/133 is, you'll get a completely different
answer than the one you get from a gamer who owns one.  (or two <g>)  If it was
truly slower than a P90, then it should have a slower frame rate in games than a
comparably equipped P90 - which it does not.   (overclock one to 150mhz and really
start having fun!)
