i assume lots of us gpl'ers will be off to brands this weekend
to see (and hear, oh yes!) our favourite cars.

i'll probably be going on the sunday.  anyone know if there's an
'official' gpl meeting place/time that's been agreed on, so we can
grin stupidly at each other and swap notes about setups and braking
point(s) going into paddock hill bend...

I don't think I can make it, being in California and all, but I'll be there
in spirit! And just to keep everything on-topic<g>, we expect a full report
on ride heights of GPL era cars.

I'm jealous, have a great time!

it was my first time at Brands  (I live in the Midlands) - and it
won't be my last. MUCH more impressive than Donington IMO.

Thoroughbred GP cars  and RJB series both very impressive out on the
GP circuit.  didn't see the posts for GPLers to meet up till i got
back home dammit.

BTW Brands in GPL suddenly makes a lot more sense not  suprisingly !

Seems there were quite a number of GPLer's there! Shame we couldn't have
all met up although Mike Laskey and I made it outside the Kentagon :-)

The GP Circuit is amazing. We stood out at Westfield/Dingle Dell for the
Derek Bell trophy race and those F5000's were going -quick-!

Watched the '60s race from in between Paddock and Druids... The lead
battle was really enjoyable. Now sure which car it was that won but the
tail was really flying out through Paddock. The second-placed BRM was
one fine-looking car too :-) During the pits walkabout I tried to guess
the ride heights. I know these were pre-1966 cars but maybe it was the
same then. Looked about 5-6 inches at the front from where I was.

As for the TGP cars... wow. A great field of machinery making a whole
lotta noise :-) There were some superb cars on show and good to see the
famous Tyrrell six-wheeler taking the flag at the end. Shame there was
no Ferrari there but the other cars sure did their best to make up for
it. I'm just somewhat pissed off that my camera wouldn't work! - dead
batteries which were fine before I left :-(

BTW did anyone there see what happened to red-flag the second race?
20-odd cars came past us at Dingle dell on the warm-up lap and only 5
made it on the first racing lap....!

I got inspired to run Brands in GPL more too.... Last night I won my
first ever VROC race there and then got the Lotus down into the 1m33's
for the first time... And now I'm developing a Ferrari setup to try and
do the same - 34.4 so far :-)

Great isn't it. Myself and a few mates were there agin this year, we
went last year as well (Though they didn't have the pre-66 cars then)
We didn't see much of the GP cicuit this time round, but from what I
can remember (plus I've got it on camcorder video footage) it was
quite impressive watching the TGP through Hawthorn bend (?).

I saw that race at Surtees. It was really good there cos you could
almost look down into the***pit, and see the drivers really working
the wheel at times. It was great when one of them spilt some fluid on
the track there and then watching the other guys negotiate it.

WRT ride-heights. You seem to be about right. I've got one or two
photos, plus some video footage of a Cooper Climax reving in the pits.

They certainly are noisy. On the Sat, we were in the grandstand
watching them in practice. The noise just echoed in there. Yum.
It was also interesting seeing the Tyrrell 6-wheeler come down
clearways during practice. he was getting SOOOOO twitchy, I thought he
was going ot put in into the wall.

WRT the Ferrari. Yes, it was a shame (more so for me, a massive
Ferrari fan). It was really good watching/hearing all this Ford DFV
engines go around puncuated by this one flat 12 engine.
It was absolute mayhem in the pit walkabout of course as everyone
rushed to get photos of it.

I really recommend this event if they do hold it next year, if you are
a fan of motorsport.

The vintage F1 Ferraris were at the "Ferrari Days" on the Nuerburgring
(GP track) on July 2-4.

duffers like me who cant yet break 1.10 at Watkins Glen?

just go to http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc and read all the links from
there about how to do it.

It works pretty well from the UK - especially when the hosts are in
Europe - but I have raced people hosting in the US.

As for your capabilities - there are a wide range around - nobody
worries about your times too much if you are courteous to those around
you and do not get in the way of faster drivers trying to overtake.

Just enjoy it.

Thanks I'll give it a look. Must admit I'm just enjoying getting to know
the car and the tracks at the moment. Bin doing Rouen tonight.... oh boy
some of those narrow bits are plain scary.
