GPL and SMP Kicks Ass!

by Ian » Thu, 22 Feb 2001 00:28:04

I tried GPL using the D3D and OGL patch on a P2 333 with a TNT2, was
absolutely horrible on both, a struggle to hit 30 fps in training with low
graphics detail.
The same machine with a V3 3000 would run at 800X600 with 19AI at 36fps
(except for the 1st few hundred metres where it would drop to about 25 fps).
Half way on the LOD slider with all graphics on except mirrors which were
low and dynamic lighting & specular highlighting off.
I'm sure the performance of a GEF2 would be far higher, but the TNT2 just
won't cut it against a V3 IMO, even in D3D only games the V3 always seems
better than the TNT2 ever did.

Why don't you try to overclock that 333? I'm doing 500 on both. Plus,
put the screws to that TNT2 also... Take it up a few notches.

I just tried the d3d patch again. It stinks! I get 15 fps with it....
I'm sticking with the Open GL. I get the 36 max with no probs...

Simple erally, both the P2 333 and TNT2 have been sent to the recycle bin, a

run stable at 375, reasonably so at 411 with the occasional lockup, nothing
more than that.
This is now my backup PC, my main PC being an Athlon 750 with Voodoo 4.

Worekd it out: your boot screen is using 1000K = 1 meg, rather than
1024:

(256 x 1024) + (64 x 1024) = 327,680.

Why don't you over that sucker then? I have a blue core 750 T-Bird
overclocked to 109x10= 1090 on a Abit KT7 Raid. I'm also running raid
mode 0. Burst rate is 85, seek 9.5  The AMD T-Bird's
love to be overclocked! I connected the L1 bridges on my
bird with rear window fogger repair kit paint [ very conductive] Or
you can use a pencil but sometimes it wears off after a while.
You can buy the stuff at Autozone.

I have an Asus V6800 Geforce DDR on a 1.2 GHz Atlon. Direct 3d patch
doesn't give me much of a change from my SMP'd 2 x Celeron 533 MHz with
Voodoo3-3000. Where is the Open GL beta available from...? I'd like to
contrast with the D3d patch.

Cheers,

Andy

GPL and SMP Kicks Ass!

beach.net says...

May I ask, when is this frame rate taken? (practice, race, alone, etc)

My dream is to one day (before the end of the year :) ) be able to MAX
the graphics at a res of at least 1024 X 768, start a race at the back of
a 19 car pack, at Monaco (graphic hog of GPL(? or Spa?)) and never ever
see the FR drop off of 36.

Hopefully a 2GHZ machine will do this.

I think you mistake me.  The developer referenced the contention for
data access to the shared memory space as being the bottleneck that
diminished the benefit of SMP and multi-processors.  That's what I was
referring to about having a pair of CPUs running faster than 400+ Mhz
rendering irrelevant.  Maybe the bottleneck is rendered moot at that
speed.  Strictly making a conjecture there...

on, detail slider all the way on, at 1600*1280, full 36 at back of 19

Ok then. I'm going to take your post I printed out and put on my wall

too. If you almost get killed this week or had trouble breathing, I'm
sorry...
