Plans are already starting to swirl around in my head. How about a pre
Le Mans bash to London ?

Great idea Olav!

Ryan Air has dirt cheap flights to London/Standsted and Brands/Kent is only
an hour or so's drive away....

Btw, did you know that Octagon (owners of Brands, snetterton, Silverstone,
Oulton etc..) got a seasonticket offer...  cost you 100 and it will give
you [general] admissions to any 4-wheel events held at any of their tracks
thruout the year - bar the Sat and Sun. during the F1 weekend at
Silverstone.. (no loss anyway!) :-)

Yeah, 300 to 800 depending on what time and day for one trip. And
according to a CART web board, tickets are 70 for the whole
weekend. Hmmm, trip and tickets might come out cheaper than tickets
alone at Fontana a few months ago.

Not to bad if you travel England a lot :)

Only 1 race in Europe ... none in Japan for 2003?  I was hoping CART was
getting more international, but perhaps the travel costs, etc. are too high
and attendance too low.  Mexican and Canadian events have the highest
attendance, generally, with Australia up there, too.

They'll return to the Lautzitzring in Germany too - making it 2 races in
Europe...

That's not on the current CART 2003 Schedule.  What date is it supposed to
be?

Last I heard, both the Euro ovals were off the schedule.  Guess we'll
have to wait and see if anymore announcements are forthcomming.

The CART schedule on cart.com only shows the confirmed
dates. Lausitzring (either oval or road course) will be announced
today.

...and now all we need is to dump the tentative Chicago "something" with Spa
for 3 European CART race weekends in a row :)

Not that I can see any of them live here in Canada, but I would love to see
the CART cars at Spa.  Brands Hatch will be awesome as well.

OT: CART returns to BRANDS!

by Chris Mose » Sun, 12 Jan 2003 10:46:02

INDIANAPOLIS (January 10, 2003) -Returning to one of the finest oval tracks
in Europe, the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by
Ford will complete its May European Tour with an event at EuroSpeedway
Lausitz featuring a battle on the state-of-the-art two-mile oval May 10-11.

CART has added the two-day event to partner with Thursday's announcement of
a race at Brands Hatch to give the series a pair of races in Europe during
the month of May. The German 500 will be the only major open-wheel
oval-track racing event in Europe in 2003. The Champ Car World Series ran a
successful event at Lausitz in 2001 where nearly 150,000 fans streamed
through the turnstiles during the three days of action, but suspended the
event last year due to financial concerns with the speedway's operating
company.

Cheers,
Chris

Also just realised it is the short track they are using...oh well, better
that than the Rockingham oval.

Saw that too.  Bummer; probably an issue with insufficient runoff around
Hawthorn and Westfield, which would be seriously quick in a champcar.
Wonder what the laptimes will be; 45 seconds or so?  Nearly oval times!
