The thought occurred to me as I was trying to go sub 44 sec in my 1998
Nissan, "If I can go 44 sec in a Two-Litre, four door family car (I
recognize that it isn't in real life but moving on...) what are the Champ
cars going to turn on the Indy circuit sub 30's? How many laps are they
going to run 200?"

I recognize from Pook's last utterance they are still trying to use the full
GP circuit but I don't understand why that isn't the plan from day one.
Originally they said they couldn't because they were hooked up with the BTCC
but surely it doesn't take that long to change over the course. Or why not
let the tourers run on the whole course. I've never understood why the
whole course is so rarely used any way. I just worry that this is an other
half thought out stab at the European market that may poison the waters for
years to come.

Dell. As it is, the full course is deemed too dangerous for either F1 or
Champ Cars.

The whole shmear may be in a***ed hat (to miscegenate a mataphor) because
Octagon Sports (which controls both Goodwood and Brands, and is part of the
vast, crumbling Interpublic advertising empire, thanks to the motorsports
passion of one of its former suits, Les Delano) is in almost as much
financial trouble as CART. Octagon wants to sell their interest in Brands
and Goodwood, but can find no buyers because Bernie wrote a contract that
makes them liable for the British GP thru 2008 whether they stage it or not!

I don't think Octagon has anything to do with Goodwood, I thought it was
privately owned by Earl March

Maybe you're thinking of Silverstone :)

From what I understand Dingel Dell is being rebuild (and renamed to honour
the late Barry Sheen) as per requests by the FIM - the Superbike WC's
governing body.. Brands currently host a round of the SBK WC and if it's
too keep it - they have to make that section of the track, safer.

Is that bet still on Ed? :0

It's a shame they are mucking with Dingle Dell, that part of Brands is
perfect for Touring cars. It should be made law that a low angle TV camera
always be placed looking back at the exit of the Dell.
On the short course...Tracey should be lapping Rodolfo Lavin by the end
of the first lap. :)

I *think* the Champ Cars are going to be running the eponymous "Indy"
(short) course, at least this year, so no Dingle Dell...and the lap times
will be comparable to oval-track times (somebody calculated in the 30-sec.
bracket).
