Running NASCAR on a 486DX-33

Hello all,

I have a 486DX-33 with 8 megs ram and a Hercules Stingray Pro VLB graphics card. I wondering
what NASCAR would run like on it. Would it run like shit? I am wondering whether to buy the
game now or to wait until I get a DX4-100

TIA,

: TIA,

I tried the game (v1.0) on my 486-33 with ATI Ultra (Mach 8) ISA and 8 megs
ram.  The SVGA actually could be run, but playability was EXTREMELY bad.

My reasons for returning the game included:

Only VGA was even close to playable
Joystick never worked right (works with flight sims)
Sound never worked right (Pro Audio 16 not directly supported)
All textures had to be turned off
Only 3 car engines could be turned on
Had to use FM instead of digital sound
Frame rate was terrible through corners

Need I say more?  All these problems were at the VGA level.

The sad part is I still long for the game...so I just pull out the
trusty Amiga 1000 and fire up Indy 500 from a single low density
floppy and get great playability and drive with the mouse.

I have a 486DX-33 w/ 8MB RAM and a ATI Graphics Xpression (Mach 64)
VLB card w/2MB and find the NASCAR in VGA palatable.

I'm running against 20 opponents 5 up front and 2 in the rear showing,
all detail turn off except skid marks and paint. It get a little slow
when all h_ll breaks loose in the dogleg on the white flag lap at
Talladega, but I can live with it.

I'd suggest getting in on the fun now - just play it in VGA with fewer
cars and less detail - so you can get a feel for the game (which takes
a little time) and then blow them away when you get your DX4-100.

My friend has the same machine as you and it is VERY slow.. But if
you dont mind running in VGA then it is acceptable (same as Indycar). But
it doesnt have the balls to go SVGA.. I have a P-90 with 16megs and I
even turn off grass and asphalt textures to make it cook in SVGA.. Great
game, should run quite well on your new 100mhz.. Hope this helps ya..

Buy it now.  Get a bit of practice then check out the difference with the
DX4.  It *will* certainly seem like shit after you get the DX4, but it
can be acceptable with a *lot* of restrictions (few cars, little detail,
few cars drawn on screen, ect...).  I'm racing in a national league with
a similar set up and doing okay.
