Options for future online racing

I would imagine this has been mentioned in the NASCAR NG's(?) but
figured I'd mention it here anyhow..

N3 allows you do paint your car and send it out to everyone.  The way I
understand it, If you downloaded driver X's painted car, every time he's in
an online race with you, he will be driving his painted car.  This way you
can tell who is right beside you when you see the car.

Since we know that works,  I'd like to see that expanded some..  I'd
like to use a specific sound file for my F3 car in GPL.  Unfortunately, in
GPL, all the F3 cars will use that sound.  Same with the F1 cars, Everyone
using an Eagle will use the eagle engine sound that I have on my HDD.  I'd
like to have a specific sound file for my car and although all the eagles
use the same engine, I'd like to have slight variations in the sounds for
each driver.  Same with N3..  I can tell who's who by looking at the painted
car but it would be that much better if *each driver* had their own engine
sound too.

Just a thought for future racing sims,
Mike

heh interesting idea Mike...

When I think about alot of the actual racing we watch, there is a
limited number of engines in use.  Thinking of F1, all the factory cars
likely sound very much alike, err I mean the Ferrari's will sound the
same, the jaguars etc.  As far as stock car goes...  I don't know about
all the variations in exhaust systems which are allowed, but i'd hazard
a guess that the Fords all sound very much alike too.

Having never driven a race car be it open wheeled or otherwise, I also
wonder how well your opponents can be heard in the real world.

Any real drivers of unmuffled race cars like to comment?

Md

On a further note...

Quakeworld allowed the user to download the skins of the players
actualling on the server when they joined.  This would be a big help I'd
think.  And if its user toggleable (real word?)  those of us with
limited HDD space could just run what we brung as it were.
