F1C - Got Brazil?

by Larry Lindstro » Sun, 05 Oct 2003 01:15:18

Hi Folks:

RASF1 is at Brazil this weekend.  I won't be
able to start practicing until this evening.

I would appreciate it if anyone would care to
share their Brazil setups.

I've been using the "TN" qualifying setups,
detuned with bigger radiator openings, brake
ducts and enough fuel for a 40% race.  If these
are too twitchy I also add wing and then lower
the gears if needed to get good RPM in 7th.

I know nothing about setting up shocks or
suspension geometry.

This setup, in combination with my modest
skills, puts me way behind the talented drivers
I compete against.

My mailbox is stuffed with Microsoft virus
patches, so that isn't available.

The setup files are small ASCII text files.
I would appreciate it if you could post them
here.

I drive a Ferrari, but a Brazil setup for
any vehicle will be appreciated.

                                        Thanks
                                        Larry

Excellent guide by Craig Cookson - guide, setups and replay laps in this
single download at bhmotorsports.com. I just got it last night and am very
pleased with the setups I've tried so far.

Here's a couple.  They aren't real fine tuned yet, but seem pretty usable.
Both were designed for the McLaren.  Please let me know what you think.

First one is for full SA and full TC.  I have managed a low 1:14 in this and
it can definitely go lower.

Next one is for full TC, no SA.  Best I have done in this one is a low 1:15,
but again I think it is capable of more.

Thanks Charlie and Haqsau:

I'll read the advice and install the setup
tomorrow, uh, later today.

Thanks Haqsau:

Wow!  First lap, with 19 laps worth of fuel, was 1:21.
Dog slow by your standards, but a second better than my
previous PB.  The thing is sable, and I'm sure I can do
better with it.

I'm practicing online in a "pit" called "Slowpoke's
Short Sprints".  You are all welcome to join me for a
little practice.

   I appreciate your help.

                                                Thanks

F1C - Got Brazil?

Best thing I ever figured out for F1C was to learn how to drive a track by
watching the AI.  The AI run pretty realistic laps and so watching them is
like watching a driving lesson.  Set the AI strength at 100% (but keep the
AI aggression at 20% or so or they will take each other out), turn off
"private test days", start up a test session, and enter your car but instead
of racing just sit in the pits and use the plus and minus keys to watch the
other drivers.  Watch the lines they take, and try and figure out where they
are braking, turning in, apexing, and where they end up on the exit.  Figure
out what they are doing, take careful notes, then try and do the same thing.
I find I can learn a track very quickly this way, it takes a lot of the
guesswork out of it.  Okay, I'm still a couple seconds off of their pace at
most tracks, but that is far better than I ever could do before I learned
this trick.

Some notes:
-  The Insert key will give you their TV***pit view and the PgUp key will
give you a chase view.  Those keys also work during replays.  If you have a
saved replay of yourself during a non-private test session then you also
have a saved replay of the AI, and you can use the plus, minus, etc. keys to
watch them.
-  They always follow the groove but they don't necessarily brake where the
groove is getting darker.  Anyway it's hard to see the groove in traffic,
you are much better off picking trackside markers for everything.
-  You will need to apply the brakes slightly before the point at which they
start to decelerate in order to achieve the same thing that they are doing,
so pick your brake markers slightly ahead of where they start to decelerate.
-  You probably can't use as much curb as they do, in this one thing they
are quite unrealistic.
-  Their gear choices are pretty absurd, ignore them.
-  Brazil has a lot of paved runoffs, don't be afraid to use them to widen
the track if it makes sense to do so.  The real guys do.
