John Cleese at Snetterton?

John Cleese at Snetterton?

Hi

I can almost bet my hole (small) fotune that I saw John Cleese watching me
test at Snetterton today NOT kidding.
I had a major laugh watching my replay from one of the camera angles
(1.24.xxx in my old rusty Ferrari). Great humor from the GPLEA team :-))

A tip to anyone using the Geforce and maybe other gfxcards in GPL:

Today I did a backup of my C-drive and before I did it I resized my swap
file from 115Mb to 10Mb and forgot about it later. I have 128Mb RAM and
later when I sat down to do a few laps I got a GP fault in Nvopengl every
time when trying to load the game. Took me an hour before it suddenly
appeared to me that the swapfile could be the cause. How silly of me :-)

Cya,
Hans-Otto

That's Laurel and Hardy standing in that absurdly dangerous marshalls box,
isn't it?

Isn't that Salman Rushdie penning a book by the S/F line?

And don't forget them pesky little wabbits.
I ran over one the other day and fur went flying in all directions!

This is almost certainly the most unimportant point yet made about
Snetterton (which is wonderful - thank you so much!) - but wouldn't it
have been better if *all* the "Easter Egg people" were people who were
around in '67? A very young Damon, for example. And is that Lotus
Cortina's numberplate significant?

Indeed :)

It's fun, but I must admit that I raised my eyebrow too when I saw Mr.
Bean standing right in front of me. I'm not one of those 'I don't use
a lower height than 4" because that's historically inaccurate' kind of
purist, but it does take away a little bit of the '60s atmosphere...

That had GPLEA on it if I remember correctly? Not significant, but
they have every right to be proud of this wonderfull track, so let
them :)

What does your sig mean by the way? Just curious.

Yes!  They are apparently made of depleted uranium and set firmly in
concrete.  If you hit one at speed it's like a landmine!

They also seem to have some sort of adhesive quality to them because
if you motor up slowly to one and touch it you cannot move again.

Truely "killer rabbits". <g>

Also, I wish that the damned bridge would not be there when it's
invisible.  It's bad enough to hit things I can see let alone
invisible bridge abutments!

<snip>

It is a quote by Raymond Mays (famous driver of the years around WW2)
about the hillclimb course (see earlier posts under my heading "Ideas
for a hillclimb simulator!") at Shelsley Walsh, which is the world's
oldest motorsport event still held at its original venue (since 1905,
just before Indy).

Mays was very successful at Shelsley, setting any number of FTDs
(Fastest Timed Drive) between 1923 and 1950, usually in an ERA, and
breaking the outright record on several occasions.

The actual quote comes from his foreword to a classic 1946 book on the
subject: "Shelsley Walsh: England's International Speed Hill-Climb" by
C.A.N. May, which is well worth a look if you can find it (not that
easy).

I live barely 10 miles from Shelsley, and have attended hillclimbs
there on many occasions; hence the reason for my sig.

Keep in mind that Mr. Bean is an alien, as indicated during the shows
intro where he beams down from a space ship. So it's entirely possible
that he was also around in the 60s.

Thank you, Don. In fact, he is in many of the 60s Snetterton pics.

Mays is probably better known for his involvement with BRM than for his
competition record.
