ICR2: Starting a race

I always end up in a heap when I start a race ( unless I start pole
position ). the problem is with Computer cars braking. The race starts at
top speed then at the first bench the just come to an unbelievable crawl.
Since I can't see the track in front of me I just end up running into em.
any starter have this problem? how do I fix it. the rest of the race runs
fine after the crash but most of my contenders will be out of it.

I start the race and see where the AI start braking for the first corner, and
memorize where I have to break without hitting them. The I restart the race
(shift-r) and brake at my new braking point. After the first corner it is
fine, after that they are in single file and can take the corners at their
usual speed.

BTW, I have to do this whenever I race - I use realistic damage, so even just
tapping the car in front crumples my front wing :(

Open your eyes!  :-)

First-turn congestion happens in real-life too.  You just have to REALLY
careful at the start, like in real IndyCars.  Hit the brakes early.  Don't try
to win the race in the first turn.

Of course, winning the pole is the better alternative.  :-)

I have the same problem, but it's BEFORE the green flag falls.  Apparently,
the pace car slows/stops.  The AI slow also.  If I'm in the middle of the
pack, I either run over the car in front, or GET run over by the car behind.
When the pace car pulls to the side, it's out of your line of sight - I
can't tell where it is... If I'm in the pole position, when the pace car
stops, I get black flagged. :(  This usually happens at Michigan.  This is one
of the things that make me HATE ICR2.

I am NOT paranoid.  And why are you always watching me?!?

It's probably the biggest thing that's kept me from racing. I do
plenty of testing and practise, but little racing in comparison.

I had pole at Toronto recently, and whilst on the parade lap the pace
car pulls into the pits on the final right/left over the start line.
The green flag waves. I accelerate, but almost instantly the warning
"Stay behind Pace Car" comes up. I brake hard, but far too late. As
soon as I go over the line I get black flagged for overtaking under
yellow! You can understand that that *completely* screwed up my race.
Never recovered much beyond 12th ISTR.

Stuart

Yeah but for things like that there always that little shift-R key that comes
handy...
