Smoke all the time!!??!? Only  a second of that smoke on my screen and
my cpu 'smokes' :) now that would be horrible...I'm sure they left it
because they knew no one could run it with decent frame rate... If
only they would update it to use 3d cards that would permit having
rain but for now...the sky is blue and i'm heading for the finish line

Isn't there a way to implement haze a la the flight simulators? Games
like Flight Unlimited, F22 etc. reduce the visible distance to improve
frame rate rather dramatically. Anything further out is rendered in
beautiful (?) haze.  Since in rain, this distance would be very, very
short, a frame rate improvment would be possible, but then of course
you'd be looking at rewriting the game, wouldn't you?

        I thought the approximation of spray and haze WAS pretty well
done in GP1 myself...  Or were the MPS programmers so hell-bent on using
the extremely slow transparent bitmaps?
