Was it last year in Japan they taped all the action that occurred during
the commercial breaks and played it all back in real time.  so that after
the commercials, they played the laps we missed, not just the highlights of
the leader getting passed.

But as I responded, how hard could it be to show replays of the 3-4 shots they
would have missed in the meantime?  And when does racing EVER run into golf?
Few and far between, I'd say...

Probably.  I happen to prefer auto racing over golf.  And, auto racing always
seems to get screwed.  Can't they give us ONE???  But really, couldn't they
have delayed the gold coverage, and replayed the shots later?  That would have
been an easy way for both groups to see everything.  There's so much 'dead
time' during golf coverage while golfers walk to their next shot, or take 5
minutes just trying to line up their CURRENT shot...

A simple split screen would of done the trick. You don't need to here the
annoucers in golf. They could of interviewed the driver and saw someone
shoot a birdie at the same time.
Both people would be happy.

ABC does that all the time.  If you're lucky, you get a lame attempt
to talk to the driver through the radio.

How about coming back from commercial to find that you've missed a
restart and a crash?  The same thing happened for a *tape-delayed*
race on Fox (preempted by baseball).

I've always thought there was a simple solution.  Schedule a "CART Today"
show on ESPN or ESPN2 *AFTER* the race is scheduled to finish.  If the
race is running long on the parent network, then show "Thrills & Spills"
or a rerun of World's Strongest Man until it's over.  I bet hardly anyone
would care if either of those got interrupted for post-race coverage.

IIRC, there were a few times last year they did pre-race on ESPN2 and
threw it instantly over to ABC for the race.  Why can't they do it the
other way around?
