hi, i want to install pce so that it will run without the cd being in the
drive. i can't make it work. i just want it all on the hard drive. can anyone
help me?????? TIA

Sure it can.  There's a freely available tiny program called "FakeCD".  You
load it when you boot your computer and it will fool the computer into
thinking that the directory specified in the command line is actually a CD
drive.  The problem is that you have to have the contents of the CD copied
to your hard drive and that can take up some serious space if you are
talking about multiple games.  It will also***up your drive letters, so
anything previously installed from CD requiring the disc to be in the drive
won't find the disk.

You could probably whittle it down to which file or whatever the game
actually checks for on the CD and delete the rest of the data after
installation, but that still leaves the drive letter issue.

Before everyone starts screaming about software piracy, there are legitimate
reasons to use a program like FakeCD, not the least of which is your right
to move data you OWN to any medium you desire for your personal use.  Yes,
it can have illegitimate uses, but that action is the sole responsibility of
the person making that choice.  I just don't wanna be at their house when
Janet Reno comes bangin' on the door with a lead pipe...
