So is number 1 on the list a paint kit, or what??

The***pit.
I can live without the paintkit (does make the game more realistic or makes
me run faster), but without a***pit view I will
1) Put Burnout in the shelves like it is presently
2) Check out the NHRA simulator.
And please, I don't want a el-cheapo***pit. The way I see it is pretty
simple. Camera angle is the correct one from the driver. You see the hood.
No***pit. You can put the gauges and elements where you want like the
outside-car views. This won't fit for me. Sorry.

This reminds me of the people who refused to play Nascar2
until a save game feature was done! To each his own by why miss
out on an entertaining product because you don't have an ***
***pit! As has been stated Bethesda is redoing the game to include
one but I'm not sure I'll even change over to it when it comes out.
After the first half an hour I didn't even notice anymore.
This game will become a serious sim before long, if what I'm
hearing is correct! In the mean time its nice to have figured out what
does what in the game! But I strongly suspect, with the added realism
will come a penalty for those of us who have spent countless hours
doing setups but such is life! I remember beta testing a certain piece
of software for 5 months only to have the final release changed
dramatically at the last second and then being told I had a huge
advantage over the non-beta people! Wrong, my setups went out
the window! And I started all over again.

Thanks, that's good news to hear. I can wait, but remember than there is
another SimRacing title who will take most of my time coming in not long.
Btw, to reply to Pete, I was not for a save game for Nascar2. Note that
David Kaemmer will not include a save game for Nascar3. This adds to the
realism. That's all what I want. A***pit view means realism. I don't see
Drag racers attached to the roof of the car to race. But I understand your
point about the penalty.
I seriously think this game was shipped before time, and this was probably
the biggest flaw that made me put it on shelves. I don't appreciate the 3sec
Nova like Robert your saying ;-) This isn't realism. Remember before any
patch. Constant crashing.
Oh and 95% of the PC market won't like the game, simply because of the ugly,
cheap and slow graphics in VGA without a 3dfx card. <g> I had better
framerate in Gp2 with full-details on my old Pentium100 !!! :-( Still
I can wait for a better product, and have a second opinion about it. I want
a good drag racing simulator, not a rushed out BS one.

Robert, probably true! But performance may be relative! Maybe,
Nova's won't be able to do 3's but those of us that figured out how to get
them there also figured out many things that were required to go fast.
As far as I know and I could be wrong there were only two of us
that did. And other than David letting Tim at SHRA see what he was doing,
nobody else should know how to. Unless Tim has said something. He
considered us lucky but like anything else, hard work has its rewards.
Good, bad or ugly!
Pete
Francois, part of the problem with a***pit may be the same
problem Nascar2 had with the 3dfx card. The***pits caused severe
hits on the frame rate, because the card doesn't update 2d and 3d
graphics very well at the same time. If you have any doubts go to the
outside view and the 3dfx version runs silky smooth. If you don't have
a 3dfx card at this point and time life will only get worse as most ***
companies are using it as there card of choice.
The other problem with a***pit view, is the view. If you ever
get the chance to sit in a Funny Car and have the body lowered down
over you, guess what! The view is brutal! Plus, when driving a drag car
you don't have a chance to check your gauges during a run. It is done
for the most part before you have staged in the lights and after the run
is completed.
As far as the 3 second runs go, yes they were unrealistic! But,
only David Leonard and myself were the only 2 that had figured it out.
Not even the beta testers or programers had been able to achieve it.
The fact we did do it will assure everyone, that it will be fixed. As much
as I would like to have the huge advantage, I knew it wouldn't happen
and thats why I stopped even bothering to go faster.
In this day and age no software is shipped perfect, the fact that
Bethesda is listening to us and the beta testers and will be providing a
signifigant patch is important. When it comes to the beta testers, if it
is like any of the beta testing I have participated in you aren't given
much time
to give any input. And usually, only major bugs are looked at. The fact
that
so many different physics models, were required in both the chassis,
engine,
weather and aerodynamics, I'm impressed they got so many things right.
And if what I have beem told is correct they are committed to getting it
right!
Get yourself a 3dfx card, you won't regret it!
Pete
Thanks for the kind compliments Mr. Reston!!
: )
take care

Robert, not to be picky but I do recall you saying that
you were able to run big numbers with an earlier pre-build but
with the final release you were much slower. And yes, I think
I know why you know now.

Yes Pete I was under big numbers in all builds up to the final release
version, for many reasons, but the main reason is I quit running the game for
a month and a half because I got burned out on it and with the new patches
and everything I am starting get back into it.
