I have a cable modem hookup to the internet and can't see any connections in
GPL in the multiplay window except for serial. Is there something special I
need to do to let GPL see the cable network connection. I'm running the 1.2
patch.

try the following lines to the file "core.ini" in your GPL-folder:

[ Communications ]
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

this uses a different way to lookup your IP address and might work with
your cable-modem.
