Nascar Confusion (TM)

I am getting a little confused.  How many Nascar games/sims are their
and what are the differences?  So far I have seen/heard of:

Nascar, Nascar 2,       - original Papyrus (?)
Nascar 3,               - ?
Nascar Legends,         - ?
Nascar Racing,          - Papyrus also (?), plus racing pickups
Nascar Revolution       - ?

If I was to buy a Nascar sim, which one is best?  Depends if I don't
want more that ovals of course. :-)

OK, I don't own *any* of these, I've only tried demos of N3 and Revolution,
but here goes:

Nascar, Nascar 2 and Nascar 3 are all in the series by Papyrus.

Nascar Legends is also by Papyrus, with old drivers, cars and tracks.

My guess would be, this is the same game as the "Nascar" up above.

By a different company - EA Sports? Not half as good.

Nascar 3 is (obviously) better than N1 and N2, being newer. Nascar Legends
is (from what I read here) more or less the same standard as N3 but (like I
said) with the old drivers/cars/tracks. I've tried the demos of both N3 and
Nascar Revolution and the former is by far superior - Revolution seems very
arcadey.

Here is a list of Papyrus Racing simulations on the PC that have the NASCAR
License :

- Nascar Racing (the original)
- Expansion track pack for the above game
- Nascar Racing 2 (the sequel)
- BGN Expansion pack for N2
- Nascar Racing : 1999 Edition (N2 with BGN tracks and Truck tracks)
- Nascar 50th Anniversary (N2 bundled with the BGN pack)
- Nascar Trucksman racing (NR: 1999 Edition but only the trucks)
- Nascar Racing 3 (currently the best one to get for a Stock-car sim)
- Nascar Racing Legend (Same as N3, but from the 1970 season)
- Truck Expansion pack for N3 (upcoming)
- Nascar Racing 4 (using the GPL game engine)

Get Nascar Racing 3, I suggest.  Of course, I on purpose eliminated all the
other NASCAR titles, as you said you wanted a sim, which the others are not
(Electronic Arts are all arcade-based games).

>Nascar, Nascar 2, - original Papyrus (?)

These are the first 2 version of Nascar Racing by Papyrus, published by
Sierra Sports.  You can get either for less than $10 now.  I don't recommend
them only because the newer versions are so much better.

AWESOME upgrade to Nascar 2 / Nascar 50th Anniv. / Nascar Racing 99.  If
you don't have any versions of Nascar 50th or NR99, GET THIS!!  Currently
it's the best Nascar game out there.  Awesome transparent smoke, persistant
skid marks, internet play on any track for free against up to 25 others...
MANY more options to pick from (grille tape, trackbar).
Uses the same "engine" as Legends below, but with newer cars.

Pretty much, see above.  It's basically the same game but uses 1969
rules (no pit road speed limit, and some other stuff), and the '69 cars -
superbirds, torinos, Daytonas, etc.  Also includes tracks not available
elsewhere (Riverside).  I don't have this one (yet) so I can't speak
personally, but it's getting VERY good reviews from those that also like
Nascar 3.

You're thinking of Nascar 99, probably.  This is the ONLY way to get the
Supertrucks (and their tracks!), so I certainly recommend it if you're in
the slightest interested in the trucks.  They're a BLAST to drive - they
handle totally different from the cars.  Plus you get tracks like Portland
and some others that aren't available anywhere else.  Should be less than
$20 everywhere now.

This is the one put out by Electronic Arts.  The first version is so
buggy it's almost unplayable.  Then they patched it to make it playable -
but still no "sim."  I enjoy playing it for a quick relief.  The tracks look
a bit better (to me), but the cars aren't nearly as nice as Nascar 3, even
tho NasRev's cars "bounce."  If you MUST get this, make sure either get the
SE version (which, at retail, comes with videos on how to drive a racecar),
or get the patch IMMEDIATELY.  They're currently beta testing online play,
but I don't know how reliable it is.

I heartily recommend Nascar Racing 99 (ONLY for the trucks), and Nascar
3.  Tracks are swappable between N3 - N99 - Legends, too!!  There are
literally THOUSANDS of cars out there for Papy's series, and even a few
tracks!  Haven't seen ANYTHING for NasRev.

Allow me to correct myself: it's the 1970 season, not 1969.  I was
confusing it with Gran Prix Legends.
Oh, and Nascar 3, Legends (both of them) and Nascar Revolution all
support force feedback steering wheels.
