Oh yeah, it'll still work. I've got a 3 year old TSW2 gameport model and it
works fine on a brand new machine with Win XP even.

And buttons staying on? I donut get it. Mine's been fine for the length of
time I've owned it, and their lifetime warranty should've fixed you up with
anything other than pots.

Force feedback is another issue, won't get it with a Thomas, no doubt.
That's the reason I went with Thomas, as FF, in it's current application,
sucks IMO.

I've got the TSW2 Formula and it has two buttons on both sides of the wheel
for whatever you need to do. The stacks they were on would not stay anywhere
close to the original location. I was going through pots so quickly with it
that it wasn't worth my effort to have them fix the wheel since I was just
going to stop using it anyways.

May I ask what you were doing to wear your pots out so quickly?
My TSW Cup is 2 years old and the original spec pots are still working fine.
I use it on average, about 8hrs a week.

I don't know, that's why I dropped it. I just used it like I've used every
other wheel and it kept on crapping out on me.

Very interesting. Like I said, I've had mine for 3 years and the pots are
still going strong. Of course by this point I've forgotten which wheel it is
that you have and I know some of theirs come with regular pots and TSW2s
similar to mine came with more durable SPEC pots.

To each their own I guess, good luck with your current setup. I'd just like
to throw out there to the general public that Suart's experience with TSW is
not a common one. I don't work for Dave, nothing of the sort, but myself and
some racing friends have had TSWs for years now, and abuse them regularly
(LOL), and have had no such failures. Not one single pot in 4  TSW models
since 1999 has gone bad (me and 3 of my friends own one each, d'oh). Mine
personally, still drives like the day I unpacked it in '01. Before that, I
had a really old Thrustmaster T2 that I just got tired of replacing the
bungee, steering pot and pedal springs in...started out in NASCAR Racing 1
with that one...

Hi Stuart

The reason that I am asking is 'cause I have a TSW that has given me
excellent use for some 6 years now.  I am interested to take your 'pieces'
only as spare parts for my unit (it is getting older now:)

So... let me know if you decide that you are not going to want or need it
any longer and we can chat more about it.

Cheers

I seem to have replaced quite a few pots in my time owning the wheel, but I
think I have the cheaper pots.  If you get the higher-quality version, doesn't
that***up the way sims read it?  Seems that I remember hearing about a
problem with using the 100K pots...

I believe that was an issue on some Win XP machines.
I am using Win98SE with my spec pots.
My wheel does exhibit a slight jitter off center in calibration, but it doesn't seem to adversly affect
the operation of the wheel in the game.
I plan to ship my wheel to TSW soon to have the USB mod done to it.

From what I read on their site...they have a big backlog on USB
conversions.

Soooo, how hard is doing the mod yourself? Have you done the USB mod, Dave?
I wonder if there is a backlog of the kits?

   No I haven't.  I don't even have a TSW.  I'd LIKE to get a unit, and
this change to USB is even more enticing.  But the family credit card seems
pretty tired these days.

I don't recall if they had kits...go dig thru the site, you might find
some info.

I've been to the site and they do sell kits but they don't specify
availability of the kits... just that they are backlogged on the mod jobs. I
checked the link which is supposed to give info on how to install the kit
once you get it but instead of a set of online instructions it's just a page
of a lot of pictures showing someone doing the mod... I like that there's
pictures but I'd like it more if the actual instructions were online. Also,
they say on the site that the USB mod is a better solution than the USB to
gameport converter that they offer (that's all they had for a USB solution
for a while) but they don't say why it's better. I'm leaning toward getting
the USB to gameport converter 'cause I'm just in the middle of an upgrade
cycle and the Abit NF7-S mobo I've ordered doesn't have a game port. I know
all about the family credit card being maxed and that's what leads me to
this... unless someone can give me a compelling reason why the converter
($25.00) is that much inferior to the USB mod kit ($100.00) I think I'll be
going with the converter.

I'm still using the gameport model on my Win XP machine and it seems to work
fine. As mentioned by someone else, I see some twitches in the calibration,
but have never felt anyhting while actually running. I am going to see about
getting the USB mod kit if it is still available, and doing it myself (just
for peace of mind). IIRC, they have some directions on their website on how
to upgrade it yourself with one of their kits and it didn't look that tough
really. I ain't skeered of taking stuff apart. LOL! I just hope I don't have
too many parts leftover when I'm done...I just have to be sure that I can
mod mine as directed since it is an older TSW2 Cup and back when I got mine,
split axis was an option and I got it. Seems to me the last time I looked
into it, the TSW2 Cups were not split axis and it makes me wonder about
upgrading.

I have a TSW2 that I use with their (Rockwell) USB converter, and it works perfectly since I changed motherboards.  My last MB, a AV7333 used a VIA chipset that would loose touch with the USB port every so often. None of the fixes or patches worked. Finally I just upgraded my MB to a A7N8X-E with a Nvidia chipset, and I've never has a problem since. Thomas does recommend that you change all three pots to the 250u ones, which I did.
