GP500 vs SBK2000

by Lewi » Tue, 25 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I am just curious...which motorcycle race program do you guys and gal think
is the best between these two? The reason why I ask is that I have SBK2000,
which I find luke warm (tracks are nice though) and have the chance to buy
GP500 which I do not currently own. I could get into SBK2000 if the bike
were a little more realistic physics wise (GPL has spoiled me I guess). Are
the GP500 bikes any more realistic compared to SBK2000? Thanks for any
replies. Lewis

Is there an echo in here???

GP500 seems to be more realistic, handling-wise, and the online play is
superior. With SBK2000, you're lucky if two of you can hook up, but you can
get 6 online with GP500. Having said all that, I'd really like SBK to be the
better game, simply because it looks so beautiful, and runs like a charm, so
dependent on your wishes (on- or offline) you make your choice as you see
it.

GP500 has a much better feel.
The gear change problem spoils SBK2000 for me at the moment.

I have both, and definitely prefer GP500.  Mind you, I'm not the stickler
for realism in bike sims that I am in auto sims, but GP500 certainly seems
to feel better, and I've actually found it much easier to handle than
SBK2000.

I'm actually playing with an old CH Mach1 joystick, using the smart shifting
option (one button to change up or down, depending on whether you're
accelerating or braking), and the game feels for all the world like the
original Grand Prix/World Circuit with killer graphics and only two wheels.

GP500 is what I turn to when I don't feel up to the challenge of GPL, but
still want something more than arcade racing.  The tracks are very well
modeled (though the graphics aren't quite up to SBK2000, they're still
gorgeous), and I really enjoy hotlapping with the "ghost rider".

i said it a little while back, if sport bikes handled like SBK2k I'd be
dead. GP500 has a much better feel, IMO.

I have downloaded the demo of SBK2000 and am not to impressed, I really
liked the original game though!
GP500 is an excellent Sim, read my review on www.simhq.com if you like.

This is a very fine Motorcycle Racing Sim.
Perhaps the best yet for the PC ?

GP500 feels much more like a real cycle.
It also has excellent graphics barely a notch below SBK2000. Both games lack a
sense of speed at times, especially when you are approaching a corner at 80mph
and it looks as if you are doing 30mph.
That leads to a lot of crashing because it is hard to judge your speed, but you
get better at it with practice. It is an excellent game.
