SBK 2001 and XP ?

by Txl » Fri, 21 Dec 2001 20:23:03

Hello

Installed it, everything OK

When I launch it it switches to 640*480 and tells me in a D3D popup "invalid
video mode" twice and crashes to the desktop.

I have a geforce2mx, GPL runs fine, desktop is in 1024*768 and I don't know
what could cause this problem, anybody has a clue ?

Thx

The system util from EA finds no joystick (I have 2), no video board, Dx7 (I
have8.1), windows 98 (I have XP) and so on.....

another great programming from EA after the controller in F1 2001 ?

Since it was made approximentaly 18 months before XP was released I'm not
sure blaming EA is on target.  It works fine for the boxes they designed it
for...the win9x family.  I know of a title or two from other companies that
deliberately crippled them so they wouldn't work with Win 2000.   I believe
the reasoning was to save support costs.
Your operating system has outgrown your software.  One more reason to
start up the thread again about how XP is NOT an upgrade.

well GPL was done EVEN before that and still works flawlessly under XP, so
if the programmers from PAPYRUS did it then why couldn't the guys from EA do
it also ?

On top of this detecting DX8.1 as DX 7 has not much to do with XP or 98....

But apparently the trick is to have it run under 98/me compatibility mode

Will try tonight and tell you guys about it

I think RollerCoaster Tycoon was one of those.  They came out and emphatically
said there is NO support for win2k...
Didn't matter much to me - I'm still on 98se...<g>

It's perfect except for the freeze-frames that happen.  Drives me nuts.

Never had this problem before XP.

ok, more news...

read on the forums you have tyo set it to W98/me compatibility mode...
read on the forum you have to set your desktop at 16 bits

got 2 no-cd patches from astalavista

doing both stuff from the forum and running the ASM no-cd patch makes the
game run the game won't even run with original file and the CD !!!

This being say i still have the freeze frames and the sound is clicking as
in GPL....
