Need For Speed 3 error workaround (SNDbankadd and others)

by Bill Ryde » Wed, 30 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Hi  people,

I found a work around for my problems so I can at least play NFS3.
Something silly to play instead of GPL :-). Love catching evil speeders.

Some interaction between NFS3/Windoze 95/Diamond M80 1.07.06 drivers
causes unbelievable flakiness.
I have an AMDK6-2 and win95.

Possibly these workarounds may help other problems with nfs3.

PROBLEM 1) SNDxxxxxxx error codes:

WORKAROUND:

Turn off all music - in game and in menu.
Exit the game immediately.
Restart your machine!!!

Some interaction between NFS3/Windoze 95/Diamond M80 1.07.06 drivers
causes unbelievable flakiness.

I have an AMDK6-2 and win95.

SYMPTOMS:

1. Game won't run the first time you start it (get SNDmumble error).
Start it again without rebooting and it works.

2.  In race music causes it to crash out with SNDbankadd - INVALID BANK
ID
when you try to start racing.

PROBLEM 2) Exception violations

SYMPTOM:
Exception violations - one with an 0XFFFFFFFFF address.
I have a friend with a PPro windoze95 machine and soundblaster awe32 get
this error also.

FIX:

Uninstall nfs3. Delete the directory if it is left behind. Reinstall
with full install. Lots of people have mentioned this reinstall and it
has fixed one problem I had (when installing lots trying to fix the
stupid thing) and a friend fixed his problem by doing this.
