Rally Trophy Relay is Released

by Schum » Sun, 09 Dec 2001 18:18:12

Thought I would let those of you who frequent this board know that Relay now
supports Rally Trophy.

Tons of features (that I will post when I get rid of this CRT Headache) to
offer, so I hope you enjoy in the meantime.

Cheers,
Schumi

P.S. I will be posting a features list which is quite lengthy in nature
within 48 hours, I may break it up into "multiple topic specific headers" to
appeal to probable-specific interests, so please excuse the afore mentioned
'perceived spam' that may follow.

I just played the Rally Trophy Demo today.  I'm impressed so far!

Controls worked the first time without hassle.  That's hard to get in a Full
version much less a demo these days :)

As soon as I find it on a shelf in the US, I'm grabbing it.

I was also impressed by the demo.  This prompted me to get Rally Trophy as
soon as it was released but it has not lived up to the promise.  The
graphics are generally good but one very big problem is the lens-glare.  I
don't know if anyone ever told the programmers but you need a lens to get
it - hence the name!  It rarely, if ever, exists outside of a camera.  There
is no way to turn it off and on a number of occasions it is so bright, it
obscures the course!

Car handling is OK but not much more than that.  They still have the problem
of the cars seeming to rotate on a central axis, rather than via wheel
traction.  This is a real surprise, given that it was wonderfully solved in
GPL many years ago.

Overall, this is a good arcade game but simply not in the GPL league for
realism.  I'll save it for network play with friends.  After a few beers,
the realism aspect does not worry us so much!

I would agree with you if you were talking about Colin McRae Rally/2 or
Rally Championship/Extreme, but NOT Rally Trophy.  IMHO this is the only
driving title besides N4 or GPL that has the physics modeled correctly (as
they can get) for a racing simulation.

As a follow up - I don't have F1-2001 and this title may also have it
figured out judging by the popularity here in RAS.

'Rotating on central axis' describes Mini handling under stress excellently.
My Renault 5 was like that as well - its due to the short wheelbase!

Arcade game..?

Spinning on central axis not wheels...?

Put the beer away mate and drive it fast....

I will be very brave here and say you are quite slow overall, and fall into
my legendary category of "Not Fast Enough To Feel The Sim"

If i am wrong i look forward to seeing you above me at Rally Trophy Rank
anytime soon.

Too many slower drivers dont get to the core of the sim and subsequently
miss out on a great part of the programming.

But then thats their loss....i love it:))
