What is the best "shareware" program available to paint cars and import
picture into the "driver info" section of N2?  I imported my picture and
it screwed up the pallet which causes the colors to go nuts.  I tried a
couple paint programs I have-- with no success i.e.  Corel Draw v5.0 and
Corel Paint, Hijack Draw even Paint shop Pro 4... any suggestions
appreciated.

I'd say there's something wrong with your approach. I've been using the
V4.12 beta of Paint Shop Pro quite successfully to do N2 cars. To import
your picture, try the following:

1. Load BLANK.PCX from the CARS directory
2. Save the palette as N2PICT.PAL
3. Convert BLANK.PCX to 16.7 million colors
4. Load your picture (and convert to 16.7 million colors, if necessary)
5. Paste your picture onto BLANK.PCX
6. Load the N2PICT.PAL palette file
7. Save your completed picture as X_PLAYER.PCX (or appropriate filename) in
the CARS directory
8. Load the car in N2 Driver Info and select "Load PCX"
