I downloaded and started playing a demo for N.I.C.E. 2 (aka Excessive
Speed aka BreakNeck) and, much to my surprise, there is a Trabant!
And a Tin Snail and a Fiat 500 and an old Beetle...  Graphics are
easily in the Colin McRae Rally league and,  when BreakNeck is
released in June in the US, ACT Labs promises RS Shifter support.
Even for the Trabant.

ACT Labs is also promising RS Shifter support for Hard Truck 2.

Now if Synetic could just finish Mercedes Benz Truck Racing....

Where did you get the demo? Tried 3d files but the link is dead. Thanks.

I got mine through a Portuguese site which linked to Adrenaline Vault.

There are three demos on the Avault site.

NICE2DEMO.EXE (9MB) includes the Australian track and lets you drive
the Lamborghini Diablo against 7 other computer controlled cars..

NICE2DEMO2.EXE (20.5MB) includes the Australia, Arizona, and F1 Track
Melbourne. You can drive the McLaren F1 LM, Jaguar E-Type, and Fiat
500 cars.

DEMO_N2_03.EXE (24MB) includes the tracks: Australia, Arizona,
Egyptian, and F1 Track Melbourne. You can drive the McLaren F1 LM,
Dodge Viper, Aston Martin DB5, and (oh, yeah!) Citroen 'Ente' 2CV.

The whole works should show up sometime toward the end of June for
less than $30.  Looks like buckets of fun.  :)

Thanks again

You are very welcome.

Offbeat as it is, I think BreakNeck (N.I.C.E. 2/Excessive Speed) is
going to provide many hours of enjoyment this summer.  (I love how the
Citroen has to downshift from 4th to 2nd just to make it up the hill
on the Egyptian track.)

You can also check the ACT Labs website (http://www.act-labs.com/)
for a link to the demo of BreakNeck.  That demo features the
Australian town found in the N.I.C.E. 2 demos, but there are four
cars, all races are among identical cars and the rendering of the cars
seems more detailed.  As you might guess, the Bonsai group got my
vote.  :)

If this is the same game released as "Breackneck" in the UK, it's been
out here for months. My local EB had it for UKP20 last I looked - maybe
I'll go and buy it!

Better check out the demo first.. I really-really-really hated this
game :)

And yes, Nice 2 = Breakneck. I'm surprised it's now being released in
the US, if I'm right it was released here in Europe more than a year
ago... Nice graphics, baaaaaad gameplay (imho ofcourse).

You're right.  The game was originally released in 1998.

As for the gameplay, let's give this a moment's thought.  Any game
that would model a Trabant or a CV or a Fiat 500 already has already
wedged a substantial amount of tongue in its cheek.  And the storage
space for that much tongue implies a fair amount of cheek.

I've found the demo to be an enjoyable diversion when I don't feel
like firing up something more serious.  And no other game gives me the
CV!  :)

Do give the demo (available through a link at the ACT Labs site) a
try.  If you don't like it, you've saved yourself some money.  If you
do, well, life's full of surprises.  :)
