The ADC League is Looking For Racers

Some of you may have heard of the Average Drivers Club. We're a unique
entity in the GPL world in that we have always been a Club, created as
an alternative to random pick up races at VROC.

We've decided to start a League to supplement our Club, and we're now
looking for individuals that are interested in some clean, gentlemanly
League racing.

Our League will be running on Saturdays, with practice beginning at
21:30 GMT. The reason we will run the League on Saturdays is that the
ADC has a diverse membership; we have members in the United States
(including Hawaii), Canada, South America (Chile), England, Austria,
Denmark, Finland, Holland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, New Zealand and
Australia. So the 21:30 GMT time allows all the members a chance to
get together. It's tough to commit to racing every Saturday (or Sunday
morning Down Under) when your part of the world is in Summertime (and
those pesky Family obligations get in the way), so that's why our
already large  membership has been unable to fill out the League
roster.

We currently have 9-10 spots available. The basic outline of the
League is below:

There will be 11 races, one per month on a Saturday. Practice will
begin at 21:30 GMT. The races will be Intermediate Long with a
30-minute practice. The very long venues may have a 45-minute
practice.

The tracks:

Limerock Park
Leipzig
Reims
Oulton Park
Bremgarten
Crystal Palace
Donington Park
Solitude
Road Atlanta
Snetterton '67
Watkins Glen 48/Isle of Man/Hockenheim (still pending)

The points will be awarded as follows:

1st - 10 point
2nd - 8 points
3rd - 6 points
4th - 5 points
5th - 4 points
6th - 3 points
7th - 2 points
8th - 1 point

In addition, 1 point will be added for fast lap.

Car restrictions will be as follows:

Positive GPL Rank - no restriction
0 to -10 GPL Rank - limited to Brabham, BRM, Cooper, and Honda
-10 to -40 GPL Rank - limited to BRM, Cooper, and Honda
-40 GPL Rank and below - racers with a GPL Rank of -40 and below will
be restricted to the BRM, Cooper, and Honda. In addition, a 10-second
handicap will be added to the race results for those drivers.

Within the framework of the cars available to a racer in his
particular ranking, the racer will choose the car he wants to drive
and submit that request to the League Director(s), who will then
approve such requests. If the Director(s) disagree with the request,
it will be worked out directly with the racer as to what car he will
drive.

Rules:

No Turn 1 rule as used in the ADC Club divisions; just go for it when
the flag drops.

There will not be a special rule on the use of Shift-R, but accidents
that are the result of driving that is not consistent with ADC
Standards may be reviewed and a time penalty incurred. Accidents will
happen in the course of a race and that is to be expected and
understood. But the ADC standards of on-track behaviour must be
maintained.

I'll forward it to the League Directors, Mark Casey and Bernd Nowak.

Of course, any new racers signing up for the League will be welcome at
the regular ADC Club events also.If you'd like a little overview of
what the ADC is all about, check out our page at Speedgeezers:

Humm...

I'm decidedly Average <g> and would gladly join if I could get my
Windows oldie to connect to the Net (gives some BS error currently), but..

Well, see, you're not exactly getting me hooked here.

All these tracks are NON_STANDARD tracks. I can't see a single GPL track
here - the ones you're likely to be reasonably proficient at. Who says
we want to race only these add-ons, or even are able to? (The Glen48,
Donington, Leipzig, Atlanta and LimeRock are all too heavy for my old
333 MHz PII system.)

Some of these would take me days to get moderately fast at (I'm average,
remember?   ;), others wouldn't, but anyway, running at least half of
Papy's standard tracks would be more of a target for an average person,
imho. You're now assuming we all have, and have mastered these extras.
Add Zandvoort, the Glen, Kyalami and/or Monza and you'd have more of an
average track spread.

Rudy, your points are well taken, but let me expound a bit.

You're mentioning that all the tracks on the schedule are
"non-standard" tracks; that is our intent. Many leagues run the Papy
venues; the ADC has always strived to be different than the other
leagues in the GPL World. As I said in my original posting, the ADC is
a unique entity; we run in a "Club" atmosphere. With the exception of
this new League, we do not keep standings - the winners of each event
just get bragging rights in the Forums for a few days. Everyone has
fun, not just racing, but also chatting it up before and after the
race, and in the forums. It's like a bunch of friends getting together
and renting a venue for the day just to have a good time. I can't
begin to tell you how many friendships have been formed within the
ADC. And it has been stated on many, many occasions how much people
enjoy being a part of the ADC.

We have a very diversified group. We have members with GPL Rankings as
high as the +200's, and as low as -58. Rookies can look to us to
provide a behaved, supportive environment to learn their craft, and
the Alien types can also get an excellent race. So even though our
name belies it, we cannot be classified as "only" an "Average" club;
we truly have something to offer to any skill level.

The Club side of the ADC runs a 33 track schedule; all 11 original
Papy tracks, plus 22 addons. We run 2 addons to every 1 Papy (so it
balances out). So the regular ADC membership sees the original Papy
tracks on a regular basis. And we've found that everyone, by running
all these different venues, becomes better racers as a result. It was
our intent, as I said above, to do something different than everyone
else when it came to the League, thus our "non-standard" track list.
It may turn off some potential members, but it does seem to appeal to
many, and has been a major recruiting factor.

Rudy, please don't take this as a criticism, because it's not intended
as such; but you do need to do a little upgrading to your system. You
are missing out on some really great venues!

Fletch
