Screamer 2 problems....

by Ian Green » Mon, 18 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Hi, i've spent most of the weekend playing Screamer 2 instead of
marking a load of papers for my undergrads.

I've got 2 main problems with my copy, has anyone else experienced
these things?

1. If a play from Dos (that's Dos 7, running Qemm 8 after pressing F8
at startup), when I win a championship the machine announces that it
cannot read from drive F (my CD-ROM drive). If I run straight from
Windows 95, however, I have no problems. I have already swapped my CD
for another, and the same thing happens in both.

2. If I run the game from a shortcut in Windows 95 rather than from
the original directory, then the Hi-score table crashes the game.

Other than this, I think the game is the most fun i've had by myself
since my wife took those videos away (laconic non-comittal smile). If
you haven't seen it yet, find someone to show it to you. If you
haven't bought it yet, then go and buy it now. It's completely
different from the original, and a lot more fun.

Screamer 2 problems....

Hi Ian,
what a relief - I'm not the only one suffering from this problem.
I bought Screamer last Friday, completed the first league and got the
read error message and the machine locked up. I can only play the game by
using the full install option. I naturally thought there was a problem with
the CD itself, so I returned it to the shop and was given another copy -
same thing happened. I then thought that perhaps there was a problem with
that particular batch, so I took the second CD to a different branch of the
same chain. The third CD still has a read error.
As it happens, I have now completed the game (won league 4 with all four
teams), but obviously I want to sort the problem out to be able to save on
disk space.
I have also noticed an annoying graphics glitch. It only happens with one
of the bonus cars - the pickup truck with the engine in the back. I get
strange grey
rectangles appearing at the side of the screen whenever there is any great
suspension movement. I have only noticed this on the F3 (roof) view though.
Apart from these couple of problems, I really love Screamer. The handling
is superb, and whenever you string a few nice corners together, it makes
you feel really good!
I'm going to email technical support - I'll let you know what happens.

Chris

To everybody with problems with Screamer 2, try disabling the music
instead of doing a full install, this works fine for me (and saves a
LOT of HD space).

Hope this helps,

Johan

This sounds very good, but how did you do that? Via the Esc-CD-Player
in MidGame or somehow in the Setup ?

(I'm far away from winning the first league, always crashing in the
walls/corners, but i will get better...)

Thank you anyway - Yours Christoph
