Screamer Joystick Problem

My friend has a QuickShot QS-206 "Skymaster" joystick. He manages to
calibrate it OK but when playing the game the car veers to the left.
When using the adjusters the car becomes totally unplayable.

Has anyone any ideas to overcome this? Is this a known problem with a
patch?

BTW I have a Flightstick Pro and have no problems with the (excellent)
game.
