Actually I think everyone but Neil had it on, since most of us apparently
practice with it on.

Thanks.  I'll get over it.  :o)

I felt that way as well.  But with the low number of drivers we have racing,

That is the trouble with F1c NOT having a dedicated server option.  If
Eldred want to use the big fat pipe that his college equipment sits on,
then he has to have the server and his own rig...
Recently with NT4 ISI released a dedicated server option, but as of yet,
this has not been transferred back to F1c.  Some users have winked and
nodded when this effort is mentioned, but so far nothing concrete has been
announced.

That and damage is wildly inconsistent, sometimes allowing you to drive
right thru another car.

I understand Eldred:

I didn't notice that the Toyota pushed you out of your
grid position until I took another look at the replay.  Had
I known what was happening I would have waited until you
dislodged yourself from that curb and served your penalty.
I waited for 10 or 15 seconds and the display kept showing
you 10 seconds behind me

   I'm going to take a break from RASF1.  I don't mind being
slow, but my first goal has always been to never take out
another car.  I failed that modest duty when I knocked Neil
out 1 second after the start.  It's weird.  After qualifying
I had my typically dismal mid 1:40s and Neil was listed below
me on the display, but I believe he had a time in the 1:30s.
So I don't think he had any business being behind me.

I love to drive online, and it would be fun to race with
you folks on that nice fast server.  It's distinctly better
than a cable connected host.

But multiplayer is great.  Like you folks the community
is friendly, and the fastest turn lap times that would put
them among the fastest of RASF1.  The slowest are like me.
If you want fast non-RAS readers to fill your RASF1 grid,
I think I could recruit a bunch of capable drivers for you.

I run a few sessions on Friday and much of Saturday,
limited by my old dual 600 MHZ to 5 drivers.  People from
the East Coast US, Europe, Australia, and Asia have told
me the connection is fine, which I find surprising.
Invulnerability is always allowed, and encouraged, and the
difficulty is as it was set on Sunday's race, so you will
hear people begging me in the chat room to allow stability
assistance.  I usually run 3 lap sprints, chained back to
back as fast as I can move from checkered flag to warm-up,
where I grid the cars as they finished, and to race again.
People seem to have fun there, and I have no shortage of
helpful people who can thrash me as soundly as any of you.
People wonder off after a while and there isn't much
opportunity for someone to enter in the short time between
races, so when there is only one fast driver left we
practice, hoping someone fast will join, and usually it
doesn't take long for the session to be full with drivers
that have a range of skills.  If people want longer races,
of course I'm happy to comply with their wishes.

Realistic?  About as realistic as racing F1 sitting on
a couch with a beer next to your steering wheel can be.

So if you want some quick, casual, races look for a
session called "Slowpoke's Short Sprints".  That's me.
I'll probably track RASF1, which I gather is the season,
so it will be practice for Sunday's race.  Sometimes I let
drivers pick a different track, but that's unusual.

I'll read RASF1 threads, and will probably post to you
folks.  I'm planning on following your circuit and when
I get good enough to be within 107% of the fastest cars
I see in multiplayer sessions, or maybe a little better
than that, I'll be back.  Don't hold your breath.

Again Neil, I'm very sorry I screwed you out of the
race Sunday.

Sure - send 'em by!  I'm curious to see how my server holsd up with a full
field.  I should set an open race at Monza or something...

[snip]

Please don't quit on my account Larry. I'm also unsure why I was put to the
back - don't think I exceeded 12 laps. When I launched I saw you not move
and pulled up fine. I think you then moved a bit so I took off again and
this time screwed the pooch. Two options spring to mind for me: I could have
turned on invincibility or I could have been even more cautious. Either way,
it's not your fault. You may have blown an engine on the line and it's still
up to me to miss you.

I'm really not bothered by it - I'm using the RASF1 series as an opportunity
to get used to the sim (never used EA before) and to do so in an environment
of a wide range of pace but, more importantly, some friendly and respectful
guys. You fit all those criteria and I'm more than happy to race with you.

Not a problem :))

Hi Neil:

   Thanks for the kind words.

The initial pause is an unrealistic action.  That's me
trying to assure I don't run up someone's tailpipes.
Because you were behind me, I gave them about a quarter
beat before I launched.  If I'd been in my customary
position at the back of the grid I'd have paused for a
half a second, or longer.

The start and stop was me starting, and kicking over
the glass of water.  I suppose that wouldn't happen if I
were using left foot braking.  My driving position is
unorthodox.

I'll see you Sunday, but this time I'm going to get a
qualifying time that will guarantee my position at the
back of the grid.  Perhaps a 150 MPH stroll down pit
lane during qualifying will secure that position.

I don't have a race schedule, or even F1C loaded
right now.  I'm assuming we are moving race by race
through the 2003 schedule.  I know they are similar,
but is it in fact the same as the 2002 schedule?  How
are we handling my favorite track, the late, lamented
Spa?
